Wilfred O'CONNOR Obituary

O'CONNOR, Wilfred Robert Born February 7, 1934 in Glasnevin, Ireland. Passed away peacefully, on August 19, 2021, in Oakville, Ontario, after a brief battle with cancer. Wilf is survived by Ida, his loving wife of 64 years. Wilfred and Ida immigrated to Canada from Ireland in March 1957 and married in August 1957. They had 3 children: Deidre (Laurie), Brian (Darlene) and Oonagh (David). Grandfather to Carolyn, Eric, Brendan, Kaitlin, Stephen and Sean. Step-grandfather to Courtney and Matt. Great-grandfather to Charlotte. Survived by sister Monica, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brothers Liam and Vincent and sister Marie. Wilf worked at Kodak Canada for over 32 years and then at Greenwich for 15 years. He was an avid, competitive tennis player entering and winning many tournaments within Ontario. He was a proud member and volunteer of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Scarborough. He also enjoyed bringing the Eucharist and volunteering with Ida at Seven Oaks Long Term Care in Scarborough. He will be dearly missed by his many friends at Tam Heather Tennis & Curling Club, Curran Hall Park Tennis Club and numerous Irish connections. A special thank you to neighbours Lloyd and Jimmy for all their help over the past years. We would also like to thank the entire palliative care teams at Scarborough Centenary and Sunnybrook Hospitals as well as the entire staff at Ian Anderson House for their wonderful end of life care. A funeral Mass will be held at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church at 2234 Ellesmere Rd., Scarborough, on August 27th at 11:00 a.m. COVID-19 protocols are in place and masks must be worn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or Ian Anderson House in Oakville, Ontario. "Ar Dheis Go Raibh A H'Anah Dilis" "May His Soul Rest In Peace"

My deepest sympathy to Ida and all of the O'Connor family. It was always a great pleasure to meet up with Wilf at many of the Irish community functions around town. He was a great supporter of such events and his positive energy and outlook greatly added to many a room. As someone involved in the organising of some of these events it was great morale booster to have people like Wilf and Ida always ready to support. He was a super friendly gentleman and no doubt a great Ambassador for Dublin and Ireland throughout his entire time here in Canada. He will be missed. Sincere sympathies to you all.

Mr. And Mrs. O'Connor and their 3 children lived on the same street, Vauxhall Drive and so did my parents, Bob and Theresa Copland, my
2 sisters, Carol and Laura, and my brother, Don. The 4 of us also attended St. Lawrence Catholic School as did Deidre, Brian, and Oonagh. We all became great neighbours and spent many times together over the years. Mr. O'Connor was a very kind and friendly person. He always had a wonderful smile and a positive attitude. My most sincere sympathy to Mrs. O'Connor, Deidre, Brian, Oonagh, and their families. May Mr. O'Connor rest in peace. Thinking of all of you at this most difficult time. Love, Heather Dignan (nee: Copland)

Dear Ida & Family

I was so sorry to hear of the recent passing of Wilf. So many great memories come to mind of the times spent together at Irish community lunches, dinners, plays, St. Patrick Day Parades, to name a few! Wilf was always great company and he loved socialising with his fellow Irishmen! He will be greatly missed by us all. May he rest in peace. Una

Such sad news to receive while Ed and I are out of town. I’ve know the O’Connor family, since 1975 when Oonagh and I attended St Lawrence school together. They were a warm loving family on 101 Vauxhall Drive.
Then 10 years later, after getting married, we moved into the Curran Hall neighbourhood and reconnected with Mr and Mrs O’Connor. Once again, we were members at same Parish, St Thomas More.
This beautiful couple, Mr and Mrs O’Connor (always to me, never transitioned to their first names) were warm and welcoming to me, and my growing family.

Rest In Peace, Mr. O’Connor. I’m sure you and my late father, Doug Dias, will reunite in heaven and once again, have a few drinks and play some tennis together.

Much love, from Ed and Danielle (Dias) Giggie

Wilf was an active member at Curran Hall Park Tennis Club for many years. He won several club championships and he gave back by serving on the Club Executive. In recent years, Wilf and Ida were in regular attendance at our annual Euchre Night. Wilf will be missed.
