Claire Gilbert Obituary

GILBERT, Claire Elizabeth April 9, 1975 - January 26, 2019 Following a short and intense battle with cancer, our beloved Claire passed peacefully on January 26, 2019 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Claire and her family moved to Victoria in 1981. She attended Fairburn Elementary School, Cedar Hill School and Mt. Douglas High School. After high school, she spent a year at West Heath School in Kent, England allowing her to enjoy time with her extended family. In 1998 she graduated with her BA (Hons) History from Carleton University, and in 2001 completed her Masters of Library and Information Studies at McGill University. Claire very much enjoyed her career as an Archivist and Librarian at the BC Archives and took great pride in her work and her public service. Left to cherish her memories are her children (Sophia and Liam), her mom and dad (Jillian and David), brother and sister-in-law (Graham and Kerry), nephew (Daniel), her large extended family in Europe, Australia and Canada, as well as many friends and work colleagues. A Celebration of Claire's Life will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2019, at 10:00 am in the Harbour Room at the Delta Victoria Ocean Pointe Hotel, 100 Harbour Road, Victoria, BC. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation, in Claire's memory, to the BC Cancer Foundation. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallgardens.com.

My deepest condolences to Claire's family. I've just learned of her passing, which I see happened a couple of days in January after my husband's heart bypass surgery. He is recovering well, and he and I remember Claire's assistance over many summers that I researched the town of Ocean Falls in the B.C. archives. She was of great help, and we enjoyed a few lunches together over the years, too. I'm so sorry to learn that she has died.

My condolences to Claire's family - this was sad news to see. I went to high school with Claire and while I hadn't seen her since then, I have good memories of her smiling and laughing in the halls. I remember her as a bit silly sometimes, enthusiastic about all kinds of stuff and always willing to help out. One specific memory I have is of her stopping me and my friend Ken in the hall one afternoon and convincing us we should apply to be members of the British Columbia Youth Parliament - which I had never heard of before. She was very convincing so we applied and it turned out to be a great experience. I was grateful to her for her encouragement, and I can only imagine she would have brought that same smile, enthusiasm and encouragement to others in her life. Again my condolences to her family.

My wife and I had the pleasure of getting to know Claire through our leadership work at Royal Roads University a few years ago. We are very saddened to hear of her passing and wish to express our deepest condolences to her family.
