Daniel REMPEL Obituary

Sadly we announce the sudden passing of Dan on December 26, 2017. Born in New Westminster on April 29 1954, predeceased by his parents Vic and Ann, he is survived by his younger brothers Gary and Bob (Vicki), nieces Candice, Jamie-Lee and Lisa, and nephew Shane. Dan grew up in Surrey and in his 20's moved to eastern B.C. and later on to California until finally settling in Oak Bay, Victoria. Dan was an accomplished musician, playing bass guitar in several bands, and even teaching himself to play pedal steel guitar. Dan enjoyed school, excelling in computer programming and later becoming fluent in Japanese and earning a degree in linguistics at the University of Victoria. Dan also had his private pilots license and was an avid cyclist. There will be no service as per personal request.

I met Dan around 1989 when we both worked at the NRC in Vancouver.

Dan helped me move to the West End and later I helped him move to Victoria. We kept in touch over the years through frequent, lengthy phone conversations and the occasional visit.

After moving to Ontario five years ago I reconnected with Dan. In 2014 I visited him and we spent an enjoyable afternoon driving around his neighbourhood.

My condolences to Dan's family. He was a great guy and a good person and I enjoyed the time I spent with him a great deal. He passed away far too soon.

It was with great sadness that I read of Dan's death. I knew him well and shared many meals with him over the years. He was a kind man who spoke fondly of his family, especially about his nieces and nephew. Please accept my sympathies for your loss.
Sincerely,
Laurie Tighe
