Elaine Fisher Obituary

FISHER, Elaine (nee Morgan)

Born September 1, 1931, in Swansea, S. Wales, Elaine passed away peacefully, on June 5th, 2023, with her loving family by her side. She was predeceased by her eldest son, Mark David, June 15th, 2018. Survived by Gerry, her loving husband of 71 years, children Allyson (Brian), Vanessa (Daron), Jason (Kari), and grandchildren, Travis, Julie, Morgan, Sean and Addyson.

Elaine and Gerry emigrated to Canada in 1959. Elaine was a full-time housewife until moving to Victoria, at which time she decided to return to school. She graduated with a BA in History and English in 1978, and a MA in 1985. Elaine taught Canadian History at Camosun College, until retiring in 1999. During her tenure, she always found time to explain an issue or provide counseling to requesting students.

In 2002, Elaine survived breast cancer and following her surgery joined a breast cancer dragon boat team. A memorable occasion in Singapore was when Elaine, as team captain, stopped the team's two hour walk so she could have a photograph taken with a snake draped around her neck. Later the team won the gold medal. Elaine and Gerry spent many years together dragon boating and traveling the globe.

Elaine had a great love and appreciation for the beauty of nature, and she enjoyed countless hours among the splendid colors in her gardens. She loved the textures, aromas, and shapes of every one of her carefully cultivated plants.

She will be remembered as someone who touched the lives of many, through her drive, determination, kind heart, smile, elegance, grace, an inspiration to us all.

Our family would like to express our gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff at RJH for their expert and compassionate care.

At Elaine's request - no funeral or service. We plan a small family gathering to treasure our memories of her.

Although I had not seen Elaine for quite some time, I always remember our time together on the Island Breastroker. Of course the trip to, and the success in Singapore are a large part of those memories. It was a special time and Elaine guided us through it all with great dignity and class. Not always an easy thing to do with that group. She will be missed. Condolences to you and your family Gerry.

I am deeply sorry to hear of Elaine's death. We met, first, in Prince George at CNC and, later, at UVIC where we were both studying English. I've often thought of getting back in touch with her, but, alas, I've left it too long. I offer deep condolences to Gerry, and the rest of her family.
