Judith Harper Obituary

Announcing the unexpected but peaceful passing of our mother. Judy was born in Victoria, the youngest daughter of Wilf and Kitsie Harper. Judy loved the outdoors and could often be found at the beach or camping with her two kids and other family. Judy did desktop publishing for many years before proudly working on Victoria's 1994 Commonwealth Games publications. She then worked for Camosun College, in the Print Shop at Lansdowne, until her retirement in 2010, when she delighted in spending time with her young grandchild. Judy loved gadgets, video games, photography, motorcycles, science, and nature. Her infectious enthusiasm will be greatly missed. She was predeceased by her mother, Kitsie and leaves behind her children Naomi Ridout (Jud), Aaron Eng, granddaughter Kitara, father Wilf, brother Allan, sister Susan (Laureen), nephews Tony & Neil, niece Lina, aunts, uncles and cousins who all sadly mourn her passing. In lieu of a service, a Celebration of Life was held on the 20th of May.

Judy will live in my mind for as long as my heart beats and in my heart for as long as my soul exists. She made my life better with her laughter and her wisdom. In her favourite words of "Pat and Mike" (Tracy of Hepburn): "There isn't much to her. WHAT THERE IS, IS CHERSE." You were and always will be cherse. Taunt lines and calm sea. MISSING YOU.

Judy was a wonderful neighbour during our time together at Tillicum Ridge condos. She was thoughtful and caring. I especially loved it when she rescued our kitty who snuck out. What a loving lady. Her presence will be missed! Amanda Sandberg (nee McNeill)

I was saddened to learn of Judy's death and send my condolences to her family. Judy always joined us (and looked forward to) our "Lighted Trucks Parade Soiree" on the fourth floor; her conversation and convivial nature made her a pleasure to have a quick chat and have as a neighbour. Rest peacefully Judy; you will be missed.

I still can't believe that my little sister is gone and I will never see her again. This isn't the order of things! We had some great adventures after moving to our little farm on Happy Valley Road. Judy was my trusted companion and "follower" and I dutifully accepted responsibility for the trouble we got into. Our childhood was spent hiking down to beaches from Sooke to Port Renfrew - before they were named or had established trails. We hiked mountains on the island and the Olympic Peninsula from an early age and spent a lot of time camping. Judy never lost her love of the outdoors, camping or beaches. She was devoted to her children, dedicated to her work, loved music and loved being a grandmother. Judy, I hope you are finally pain-free, can hear perfectly and are with mum, watching over your family as we cope with life without you. RIP, love, Susan.

I too was very sad to read of Judy's death. Have been thinking all day about our Happy Valley days. Condolences to her family.

I'm so sorry to hear about Judy's passing. I have such wonderful memories of summer camping trips in the big van and sharing holiday dinners and watching A Christmas Story. She was a big part of my life while I was growing up and she will be very greatly missed. My thoughts are with all of you right now. My very deepest condolences.
Love, Genny
