Kathleen Bakony Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Kathleen Ann Bakony announce her passing on June 25, 2022 at the age of 62 following a battle with cancer. She will be missed by her husband of 28 years, Rob, son Jack (Leila), brother Dave (Bobbi) as well as many extended family and friends. Kathy was born in Dallas, Texas and moved to Victoria with her parents at the age of six, attending Uplands Elementary, Lansdowne Middle School and Mount Douglas Secondary. She completed her degree in Art History at the University of Victoria as a mature student at 30, shortly after meeting her husband and best friend. Kathy recently had her 30 year employment anniversary with Coast Capital Savings where she was Senior Manager, Real Estate and Construction. She loved her job and the many friendships she made there. She was a long-time member of Uplands Golf Club where she enjoyed the company of her 'golf gals' regularly and was noted for her flouncy skirts and long drives. People knew her as friendly, honest and sweet, with an easy smile and a love of laughter. She was generous with her time, money and talents, often jumping at an opportunity to help those close to her and in her community. She was a planner extraordinaire that enjoyed organizing vacations for her family and even friends, and although she adored Hawaii, Seattle and Italy among her many travels, she loved her backyard most of all. Sharing a warm evening on her patio with a glass or two of Prosecco and the company of loved ones was joy to her. Her final wish for her friends and family was something she herself did so often: to raise a toast, and try to live life to the fullest. At Kathy's request, no service will be held. Memorial donations may be made to the Kathy Bakony & Rob Janus Family Fund at the Victoria Foundation. https://victoriafoundation.bc.ca/donate/kathy-bakony-rob-janus-family-fund/

Just finding out that Kathy has passed. This is a true devastation for all of us. I had known Kathy for decades and played golf with her awhile ago. She was the most beautiful and precious person ever. Sending love and prayers to her family. RIP... never forgotten.

Rob & Jack - I loved Kathy - she was such a special lady.
I was so sorry to learn just now, that she had passed away. She was my only friend with whom I still exchanged actual hand written mailed letters. I will never forget the lovely evening Frank and I had with you all at your home a while after her first round of treatments. From what I remember she handed her illness with optimism, bravery and grace. May she Rest In Peace.

Our hearts and prayers go out to you both. Tonight I will raise a glass of wine to her as I know she would appreciate that.

Sending Blessings,
Caroline and Frank Pataky (Calgary)

Dear Rob & Jack, we are in shock to hear of Kathy's passing. She was an amazing friend and golf buddy. I have so many memories of our lessons together and rounds we played at Uplands and elsewhere - including one hilarious up-island golf road trip many years ago. More recently, we'd love to play in the UDI Golf Tourney...always so much fun because I was playing with Kathy. She was smart, beautiful and had a wonderful sense of humour. We are heart-broken...and will miss her deeply. Tracy & Jim.

We had the pleasure of communicating with Kathy regarding our property in Delta where a Coast Capital branch leases space. Although we never met in person, we had lovely conversations on the phone and by email. We will miss those interactions. Our sincerest condolences to Kathy's family.

I went to high school with Kathy at Mt. Douglas High School. I was shocked and saddened to see her passing. I was lucky to have my locker right next to her. She was one of the prettiest girls I had ever seen. More so she was so kind and friendly. I enjoyed talking and walking home from class. I think she enjoyed my company also. Sadly we went in different directions after graduation. I never spoke to Kathy again but after all these years she would pop into my mind out of the blue. My thoughts to her family and friends. She is still with us and I am positive we all meet again in due time. Raise a glass and smile

Kathy was an awesome person, friend and employee. Kathy and I worked together for 6 years prior to her passing and she was one of the most dedicated and authentic people I know. It was so inspiring to see her grow and exceed in her role as she moved into a senior manager at Coast; I learned so much from her. I will truly miss Kathy´s positive view of everything and the genuine friendships we had. RIP.

I was Kathy's math teacher in the mid-1970s when she was a student at Lansdowne Jr. Secondary. I am so sorry to see her name in the obituaries. It is one of those moments when you instantly find your heart in your throat amidst a flood of lovely and warm memories. Kathy was a wonderful student and one of those that, despite the erosion of memory over the passing years, will pop clearly back into focus the moment her name is mentioned. She was always so happy with such an unforgettable smile. I can only imagine the joy she brought to others in her life. My condolences to family and friends.

My deepest condolences to you Rob, Jack and Family. Kathy's energy lit up a room - she was like no one else I've ever met. I feel incredibly blessed to have known her. She has left a mark on my life forever. I remember when we moved into our new office building talking about how our desks needed to be close to one another. I loved hearing her stories about your travels and adventures. She showed through her actions how to live life to the fullest. I'll miss her dearly.

I worked with Kathy at CCS for 30 years. Kathy always had a smile on her face. She gave me so much information about the Islands in Hawaii. Although we always went to Maui, she was always encouraging me to try another Island. She had so much life yet to live. She will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.
