Kazuo Kusano Obituary

Kaz passed away peacefully early Christmas morning. Predeceased by wife, Kyoko in November 2015, he is survived by their children, Maki (Rob), Naoya, Kayo (Brian), Takuya (Annie) and grandchildren Kimiko, Kenji, Seiji, Kiyoshi, Takeshi, Koji and Kalani. Kaz was born March 30, 1930 to Kinpei Kusano and Fumiko Yamada in Hitachi, Japan. He left Japan in 1951 to attend Harding College in Arkansas and subsequently moved to Washington where he would complete his BA, MA & PhD at WSU. He and Kyoko were married in 1961. The family spent a few years in Calgary before moving to Montreal in 1974, where Kaz taught at Concordia University until his retirement in 1995. Kaz lived an active, healthy life into his early 80s when sadly, dementia set in. He enjoyed poetry, in particular haikus. He was proud to have the following published to Asahi Haikuist Network:

Wild black-berries,

picked in a race with bees,

oh, so sweet.

He spent his final 15 months in the care of the amazing staff at Beckley Farm Lodge. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Beckley Farm Lodge Foundation would be most appreciated. A private service will be held.
