BROWN, Dr. T. Alan The family of Dr. T. Alan Brown regrets to announce his passing on Saturday May 23, 2009. Al was in his 82nd year. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Dorothy and their four children. David (Lucy), Almonte, Douglas (Jackie), Dundas, Robert (Suzanne), Barrhaven and John (Kathryn), Toronto and 8 grandchildren, William, Chloe, Isabel, Bradlee, Keely, Laura, Lindsay and Quinn. The eldest of two sons Al was born in 1927 to Harry and Letitia Brown of Lindsay, ON. Following graduation from the Faculty of Dentistry - University of Toronto in 1950 Al began his dental practice in Eganville before settling with his family in Pembroke in 1967. He enjoyed 30 years in Pembroke and was active in many organizations in the community before retiring in 1991. In the years following retirement Al and Dorothy resided in the Ottawa area. DENNISON, Robert "Bob" Elegant to the end, Bob passed away peacefully at Perley and Rideau Veterans' Health Centre in Ottawa on Friday, May 22, 2009. He was in his 90th year. Growing up on a farm in Kentville, Nova Scotia, one of twelve children, Bob set his sights on distant horizons. After graduating from Dalhousie University, he worked with the federal public service. But then, Africa called. The 60s and 70s were filled with postings to far off lands for the family of six when Bob worked with the United Nations and the Canadian International Development Agency. A full life lived well - milk boy, butcher, film projectionist, soldier, registered psychologist, actor, director, magician, dancer, mountain climber, artist, storyteller, jogger, traveler, Canadian National Institute for the Blind puppy walker, wine maker, rockery designer, author and life-long music lover. Loved by Ann, his life adventure partner of 59 years and four daughters: Nirna, Jane (Bob Rutherford), Carol (Jacques Girouard), Marie (Tony Shipman), his granddaughter Fiona Rutherford, grandsons Ian Dennison, Malcolm Rutherford (Cecilia) and great granddaughters Mya and Norah Rutherford. DONALDSON, William (Bill) (1934 - 2009) Passed away peacefully on May 17th after an extended battle with his health. He is survived by his loving wife Irene (nee Provencher), sons Bob, Bruce, and daughter Jean. Father-in-law to Patricia and Christine, and Grandfather to Shawn, Melissa, Melanie, Catherine, and Derek. He will be greatly missed. LATHROP, Mr. Daniel Whiting Died peacefully at his home, on May 20, 2009 at the age of 95. Predeceased by his wife Margaret Helen Davison-Lathrop (January 2009). Survived by his children: Margot Helen Brebner, Mississauga, Ont., Harold Doran Lathrop, Welland, Ont., John Howland Lathrop, Upper LaHave, Nova Scotia, G. Edward (Ned) Lathrop, Ottawa, Ont., and Anna Hildegarde Lathrop, Effingham, Ont. Whiting leaves 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and his sister Leah Lathrop Walls (b. 1919) of Colorado. Born in 1913 in Dunkirk, New York, Whiting's family moved to Welland, Ont., in 1923. He graduated from the University of Toronto (B.Sc., metallurgy, 1938) and worked for Thompson Products (1939) and Union Carbide (1940-1950). He became Director of Atlas Steel, Welland, in 1948 and President of Welland Electric Steel in 1953. In 1959 he formed Beamer-Lathrop Construction, and retired in 1968. Whiting served on the Board of Governors at St. Andrew's College, Aurora. He also served on the Board of Governors/Board of Trustees at Brock University, St. Catharines (1965-1974). A legendary golfer, he was a member of the Lookout Point Golf and Country Club (Fonthill) since 1923. An outdoor sports enthusiast, his passion for the preservation of wilderness led him to gift 70 acres in Pelham (1998)-- identified at the Lathrop Nature Preserve-- to the Nature Conservancy of Canada. Viorel was an exceptional engineer, a devoted husband, an excellent friend, and we will miss his kindness and his love of life. In addition, he was a unique individual, very strong and determined, who knew how to overcome challenges that life gave you, and our lives will be forever changed by his absence. Roxana would like to thank all his colleagues and friends from Control Microsystems for their love and consideration and wishes to extend her heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital for their exceptional care, support and compassion shown to her husband in his final days. During his treatment Viorel was very appreciative of the excellent care that he received at the General Campus, and the Civic Campus of the Ottawa Hospital, and from the team of nurses at Bayshore Home Health. Visitation will be held at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Road (between Bayshore Dr. and Baseline Rd.) on Monday, May 25, 2009, from 12:30 p.m. until time of funeral service in the chapel at 2:30 p.m. Interment and reception will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa. STANTON, Marie (nee McCann) 1938 - 2009 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of a wonderful friend, mother, and grandmother, peacefully in hospital at age 71. Best friend and cherished wife of John Stanton. Dearly loved and forever in the hearts of her children Jeff (Stephanie), Kelly (Stephen Lavoy), John (Wendy). Dearest Grandmother to Jessica, Brianna, Claire, Devyn, and Shaelyn. Beloved by her sister Carol MacDonald and her sister-in-law, Helen Stanton. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brothers Bunny, Merle, Ronnie, and Donald, sister Lorraine, sisters-in-law Joan McCann and Delores Stanton, brothers-in-law Mart Cullen and Joe Stanton.
