Shannon and family,
I only heard of Don's passing Sept 25. My thoughts are with you all. Don and I worked together for almost 16 years at VIRCC and fished most of them together. The Harris, Cowichan, Koksilah, Sooke, Gordon, Chemainus rivers -we fished them all. Otter,O'brien, the Trap shack. Onion, cheese and mayo sandwiches, perhaps a little Baileys in the coffee on a snowy morning.
He bought me my first graphite rod,I couldnt afford to buy one.
He taught me to fish but more importantly he was a true friend and his legacy has been passed down to my children.
Thankyou- "tight lines Don, you are on a flood tide"

Don was a man of few words, but when he did speak, it was always interesting and usually comical. I miss seeing him sitting at the picnic table, having a well deserved break. He is missed by many, more than he ever realized. Larry St. Michel Victoria

Don,
I will always appreciate and remember your help teaching me everything from proper knots to tides and currents for fishing. I will think of you every time I go out fishing. There are few people with such patience and caring willing to help so many asking nothing in return.

Donnie gave me my big fishing experience in late 80's. We started out that day at 5AM with a bowl of pourriage at Paul's Motor Inn. Patience galore!! He put up with a sea- sick fishing buddy. To top it all off.. I went to empty porta-pottie and it went bobbing in the choppy Oceon. So there was Donnie fishing for his Porta pottie. How embarrasing. Clive Hall, Nipper and few other Correctional buddies were out that day . We laughed about this for years later.

Donnie,
I think back fondly of the years I've worked with you. I thank you for your friendship, for your advice, for making me laugh, for all your fishing stories and for all that candy.
I'm sure in your little piece of Heaven Donnie, you're "kickin" back doing your crossword, the fish are jumping and you are grinning from ear to ear.
Nothing but blue skys from now on.
We'll miss you Donnie, you were a good man.

You always hear " the good ... young", I can truly say it happens far too often. Don's tide did ebb and his boat was always at the ready but a kinder soul one could not find. He was a man to know and even more to understand and appreciate. His words of wisdom and thoughts were heartfelt whilst his simple life pleasures were to be admired. Nothing mattered more then the call to fish and the solitude to be happy in the moment of the catch. Fare thee well fellow seafarer.

Don... Thank you for being you. When we first met in 87 at the JI, I knew you were a person few words but when you said those words I listened. When I transferred over and partnered with you, I learned a lot of different interests. Bridge, more about fishing and making more drug busts....
Don.. you will always be a special memory to me and my Family.

Don
You were a true inspiration to the people around you. At work you were willing to help anyone with your quiet patience. On the water you were always happier seeing someone else catch the big one. Its time you took the rod and caught another big one.

I am proud to have called Don my friend.
No-one took fishing more seriously than Don. It was common knowledge that while working he'd book his entire leave schedule based on the season's tide charts.
Donny, I wish you fair seas, favorable tides and tight lines Buddy.
