Lorelei O'Byrne Obituary

O'BYRNE, Lorelei (nee Macdonald) Passed away peacefully in Victoria BC, surrounded by her family on January 28, 2010. Predeceased by her father, Rod, Lorelei is survived by her husband Dave; children Krystal & Ryan; mother Iolene; brothers Keith (Sandy), Greg (Alana) & their families; mother-in-law Eunice. Lorelei was born in Vancouver on November 20, 1953. She was raised in Coquitlam and graduated from Nursing School in 1975. Dave and Lorelei were married in 1980 and had two children, Krystal & Ryan. Lorelei was a strong and determined woman who put her heart into everything in her life. She found great fulfillment as an RN in the recovery room at VGH from 1980-2008. Lorelei's passion and love was her family. She was incredibly proud to see Krystal obtain her MD and to see Ryan reach the NHL echelon of hockey with the Montreal Canadiens. Lorelei approached breast cancer in the same way she approached life head on. She fought until the very end. Her love of life and spirit will be dearly missed by all. Thank you to the wonderful people at Victoria Hospice, to Dr. Sharon Allan & the BCCA staff and to all of our family and friends for their love and support. A celebration of Lorelei's life will be held at McCall's Floral Chapel, Johnson & Vancouver St., on Tuesday, February 16th at 2:00pm. A reception at the Victoria Golf Course will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victoria Hospice or the BC Cancer Agency. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com . 577323

Mr. O'Byrne, Krystal and Ryan;
I was so saddened to hear about Lorelei's passing. We only met a few times, but I feel as though I knew her well. That's probably because I know Krystal and I'm betting she is a beautiful reflection of her mom.
Please remember all of the good times you shared together - those will never be gone.
Peace and love to you all!

Dear O'Byrne Family,
How I feel your loss. I lost my Mom to breast cancer and I was touched with this disease 5 years ago. I'm a survivor and I would like to convey my deepest condolences to you all. Ryan, how you must appreciate the days that you spent by her side. Keep these memories in your heart. Time DOES ease the pain.

Watching the Canadians contributed to my recovery!

Dave, Krystal and Ryan;
I'm sorry I was unable to attend the celebration of Lorelei's life, but I want you to know my thoughts are with you right now. Lorelei was one of those very special people you're just glad you had a chance to meet and to share some special memories. I'll always remember her banging on the empty water bottle as we cheered on the hockey team at the provincial finals! You don't forget that stuff and that's why we'll always remember her.

My sincere condolences to Dave, Krystal and Ryan. I worked alongside your wife and mother in the recovery room at the General from 1996 to about 2003. We shared many laughs together with the rest of the gang I nicknamed the "original six"...which she was a part of indeed.
During my first few weeks of exposure to recovery room nursing, Loralei was one of the nurses who mentored me in the area of pediatric recovery. I shall never forget the way in which she cared for each and every child as if it was her own. Anyone who was lucky enough to be placed into her "area" or "stations" were surely guaranteed the most professional and
caring recovery provided by a most professional and caring recovery nurse.
I am honoured to have been a part of the team on which she worked. She will always be remembered for her glorious full on laughter, infectious smile and inner light that beamed full whenever she spoke of her children!
I miss the stories too of her pocket dogs and their hijinks. She sure had a knack for telling a tail or two!
Though I stopped working at the General I'll never forget the wonderful memories that I have of your wife and mother.
The brave way she approached her diagnosis and treatment were testament to the woman that she was. She never declined to share information with any of us even if it only meant that we would be more aware of our own health.
My sincere and deepest heartfelt thoughts are with you all.

To the O'Byrne family,

My sincere condolences to all of you. I am sure you will all carry her tremendous spirit and love with you and pass on all of what you knew her to be to those closest to you. Ryan, although I have yelled at you on my TV (and all your teammates as well so don;t take it personnally) you are connected to all of us because being a HAB is like being part of a family with a tradition that runs very deep. I am sure your mom will be watching and smiling. God bless.
