AUGUSTA - Deaiddra Pichelle Griffin and Dr. Rodney DeShon Peterson were united in marriage at half past seven o'clock Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the historic Union Baptist Church in Augusta. Dr. Bill Adkins of Memphis, Tennessee officiated. Deaiddra is the daughter of Mrs. Helen Williams Griffin and SGM (Ret.) Albert Griffin, Jr of Augusta. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Isaiah Williams, Sr. of Hephzibah, Georgia and the late Mrs. Alice Marie Sims of Augusta. She is also the granddaughter of the late Rev. Albert and Rev. Viola Griffin of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Deaiddra is a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Augusta. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from Fisk University where she became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She earned a Masters of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. She is employed as a television news anchor at WPTY/WLMT TV in Memphis, Tennessee. Rodney is the son of Ms. Jacquelyn Bonds of Memphis, Tennessee. He is the grandson of Ms. Mary Elizabeth Bonds and Rev. Preston O'Neal of Memphis, Tennessee. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Masters of Arts in Counseling from the University of Tulsa where he became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. He also earned a Doctorate of Philosophy in Education Leadership from the University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS. He is employed by the Boston, Massachusetts Public Schools as the Headmaster of Odyssey High School. Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, Deaiddra wore a strapless diamond white gown custom made by designer Callie Tein, owner of Modern Trousseau. The gown was made of silk duchess imported from Italy with a ruched bodice and hand re-embroidered French alencon lace cascading along the hem and chapel length train. It also features a detachable silk duchess and alencon lace floor length sash. Deaiddra wore a custom made blusher and cathedral length veil with her monogram hand embroidered on the bottom. She carried a hand tied bouquet of white hydrangea, roses, cala lilies, freesia and fragrant flowers accented by her deceased grandmother, Beatrice Williams', blue rhinestone brooch. She also wore a multi strand Tiffany & Co. bracelet which was a gift from the groom. Deaiddra chose her sister, Dr. Dawn Beatrice Griffin of Atlanta, Ga., to serve as her maid of honor. She chose her best friend since childhood Mrs. Vonda Gray Prince of Augusta to serve as her matron of honor. Bridesmaids were cousin of the bride Mrs. Pamela Beatrice Woods of Augusta, Mrs. Kimberley Newton of Overland Park, KS, Mrs. Shannon Buggs Harrison of Houston, TX, Miss Sonja Smith of Memphis, TN and Miss Nicole Hudson of Chicago, Ill. Flower girls were the bride's goddaughter Miss Laura Ann Prince of Augusta and Miss Avery Elise Harrison of Houston, TX. Rodney chose his cousin Mr. Darrell Ward of Memphis, TN to serve as his best man. Groomsmen were Mr. Wilder Lee of Memphis, TN, Mr. Eric Shegog of Washington, DC, Mr. Cornelius Alexander of Houston, TX, the groom's uncle Mr. Kenneth Bonds of Memphis, TN, the bride's cousin Mr. Gerald A.Yerby of Atlanta, Ga., and Dr. Sito Narcisse of Boston, Mass. Ring bearer was Master Chase DeShon Peterson of Memphis, TN, son of the groom. The Bride's Honor Attendants were Miss Erica Williams of Augusta, Mrs. Tearsa Williams of North Augusta, SC, Mrs. Sonya Williams Smalls of Augusta, and Mrs. CeKishia Williams Adams of Augusta, all cousins of the bride. Ushers were the bride's godson Mr. Justin Prince and the bride's childhood friend Mr. William Lynwood Holmes, both of Augusta. Readings were rendered by the bride and groom's friend Mrs. Tran Bui Smith of Collierville, TN and the bride's childhood friend Ms. Creshon D. Saunders of Atlanta, Ga. A "Litany of Love" was created, and recited, by Pastor Virzola Law of Memphis, TN. The Corelli String Quartet provided the ceremony music. Trumpeter Leonard Maxey played "Trumpet Voluntary" as the bride was escorted to the altar. Soloist Mrs. Melissa Mann sang Franz Schubert's "Ave Maria" in Latin. Immediately following the ceremony, a dinner reception was held at the Sacred Heart Cultural Center. The newlyweds are honeymooning in the Riviera Maya.
