Irwin and Susie Mathews celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner hosted by Robert and Sharon Van Cleave who live in Dallas. The couple was also honored at a dinner given by long-time friends.

The Mathews were married September 1, 1962, at Calvary Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas. She is the former Zelma "Susie" Mings. They both graduated from the University of North Texas.

They have lived in Hurst since 1963 and are retired educators from the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District. The Mathews are members of the First Baptist Church of Hurst.

They have two sons, David (deceased) and Kevin. A trip is planned later.
