Doctor Katherine 'Kaki" Achée Whitty and Mr. Douglas Weingarten Schnitzer, junior were married in an intimate ceremony with close friends and family at 4 o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, November 14, 2020, at Villas del Mar in Los Cabos, Mexico. The open-air double-ring ceremony was officiated by Mr. John Justin Stasney and blessed by Rabbi David Shalom Gruber. The ceremonial music was provided by the Soul Collective String Quartet.
Following the ceremony, a second line parade guided the guests to a cocktail reception overlooking the Palmilla Beach and Sea of Cortez, followed by a night of dining under a flower-adorned pergola with hanging lanterns and dancing at Club 96.
On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted an intimate rehearsal dinner at their family home in Los Cabos. Traditional Mexican cuisine was served with a Mariachi band providing music along with the sound of waves crashing along the beach below.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Wade Whitty III of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She is the granddaughter of the late Doctor and Mrs. Vernon Raymond Kroll and the late Mr. and Mrs. John Wade Whitty, junior, all of New Orleans, Louisiana.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael John McGhan and Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Weingarten Schnitzer, senior of Houston, Texas. He is the grandson of Mrs. Marjorie Jean Adams, the late Mr. Richard Clayton Ainslie, Mrs. Joan Weingarten Schnitzer, the late Mr. Kenneth Lee Schnitzer, all of Houston, Texas, and Doctor and Mrs. Bernard Charles Bruce of Texarkana, Texas.
Presented in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a cap-sleeved couture trumpet gown overlaid with white guipure lace designed by Monique Lhuillier. She wore her mother's Belgian lace veil as her something old. A pair of custom white satin bridal heels with a blue sole designed by her friend, Mrs. Dee Keller, served as her something blue. The groom's paternal grandmother provided the bride's something borrowed: a shell brooch inlaid with pink stones and diamonds, which had been worn on her own wedding day, a diamond wrap necklace, and diamond cluster drop earrings. The bride also wore a diamond watch that once belonged to her maternal great-grandmother, the late Mrs. Mary Adele Munch Bahan, while carrying a bouquet of pink garden roses, orchids, and peonies wrapped in white silk.
The bride's longtime friend, Mrs. Catherine Voight Thorning, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana served as Matron of Honor. Her bridesmaids were Mrs. Angelle Vosburg Whitty, Mrs. Lily Morris Schnitzer, Mrs. Kylee Miranda Alvarez, Miss Candice Elizabeth Bates, Mrs. Elaine Songy Capone, Mrs. Lindsey Graugnard Foret, Doctor Katherine Keller Marcel, and Mrs. Jennah Wakeford Peeples. The bride's nieces, Misses Emerson Ann and Elizabeth Gail Whitty, served as flower girls. Her nephew, John Wade Whitty V, served as ring bearer.
Attending the groom as best man was his brother, Mr. Johnathan Andrew Schnitzer, of Houston, Texas. His groomsmen included his brothers Mr. Robert Charles Schnitzer and Mr. Stephen Kenneth Schnitzer, the bride's brothers Mr. Andrew Vernon Whitty and Mr. John Wade Whitty IV and friends Mr. Richard Taylor Brown, Mr. Griffin Robert Guthneck, Mr. Justin David Treat, and Mr. David Brownell Wheless, junior. Serving as ushers were Mr. Oliver Josef Barbier-Mueller, Mr. Blake Tenille Liedtke, junior, Mr. Douglas Sterling McConn, Mr. Stephen Masterson Reckling, junior, and Mr. William Scott Thompson.
Kaki is a 2006 graduate of Saint Joseph's Academy in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science from LSU followed by her Doctorate of Medicine from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. She completed a medical residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas in June 2020. She currently practices as an OB/GYN in Houston, Texas. She is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists, the Texas Medical Association, and the American Medical Association.
Douglas is a 2006 graduate of The Kinkaid School in Houston and received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas Christian University Honors College. He went on to earn a Masters of Business Administration from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas. Douglas is a managing partner at Texana Capital, a real-estate focused private equity firm. He is a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the Texas Deer Association.
Following their honeymoon in Los Cabos, Mexico, the couple has made their home in Houston, Texas.
