60th Wedding
Anniversary Everett "Ev" & Marlene Vorthmann, of rural Freeport, are celebrating their 60th Anniversary of their Aug. 31, 1958 marriage at her church, Trinity Lutheran, in Steele, ND. Wirthburg College choir members & graduates, they lived in Iowa City, IA to pursue graduate degrees at SUI, and moved to Freeport in Fall, 1959. They built their rural home & filled with with 2 daughters: Dawn Vorthmann of Pensacola, FL, and Layne Lovette (John Plude) of Coconut Beach, FL; & 1 son, Scott Vorthmann (Floreliar Braschi) of Saratoga, CA. Grandchildren are Taylor & Tori Patton, Pensacoloa, and Derek & Lea Vorthmann, Saratoga. Ev retireed from an engineering careet at Micro Switch, where he invented & patented the "All-Effect Switch". While Marlene was a homemaker, she volunteered: church organist, choir director, librarian at Douglas School & Girl Scout leader; then taught Speech & English at Freeport High School, where she was known as "Mrs. V", and founded & coached the "Speech Team". To celebrate the 60th, Ev & Marlene traveled to Belgium, the Netherlands, German, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland & Italy with younger daughter, Layne & John, in June. Wishes may be sent to: 1657 N.
