On October 6, 1948, Mr. August V. Spallo and Miss Clarine L. DeLuca were united in marriage by Father John J. Whelan, Pastor at Holy Cross Catholic Church during a Mass celebrating the occasion. The accompanying photograph of the happy couple was taken when Clarine and Gus were leaving their wedding reception. The newlyweds traveled first to New Orleans and then to Galveston for their honeymoon. Among their favorite New Orleans memories were the shows at the elegant Blue Room at the Roosevelt Hotel and the Las Vegas type shows at the Beverly Country Club. They then traveled to Galveston where they enjoyed the beaches until an approaching tropical storm persuaded them that it would be wise to head for home. Clarine and Gus take pride in the accomplishments of their three children and six grandchildren and are grateful for the spouses and special friends that they have brought into the family. Their two great- grandchildren are their pride and joy. After their retirement in 1994 they traveled extensively. Their favorite destinations were New England, Canada, Alaska and Hawaii. Clarine and Gus celebrated their 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries in Hawaii. They plan to celebrate their 75th there as well. Clarine and Gus will celebrate their 65th Wedding Anniversary with their immediate family and also with the remaining members of the Donnici clan, of which Clarine is a member.
