Kristin Ann Suthard of Washington, D.C., and Zane Austin Grant of Los Angeles, California, were married Sunday, September 8, 2013, eleven o’clock in the morning at Renwick Chapel, Oak Hill Cemetery, Washington, D.C. The groom’s friend, Orion Peter, officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Suthard of Olney, Maryland. She is the granddaughter of Frank J. Tropea and his departed wife, Agnes Ginia Tropea, and Gordon Keith Suthard, also deceased, and his wife, Isabelle Suthard. The bridegroom is the son of retired Texas Court of Appeals Justice Ben Z. Grant of Los Angeles, Calif., and Dr. Dawn Banker of Portland, Oregon. Zane is the grandson of Paul and Phyllis Pittman, deceased, of Marshall, Texas. The bride is a graduate of Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring, Maryland, and she recently completed yoga instructor training under Lynn Rescigno with Bend Yoga. The groom is a graduate of Marshall High School, University of Texas, American University and University of Arizona. He is employed at Snoot Entertainment in Los Angeles, Calif.
Ceremony music for four cellos was composed and conducted by artist Christina Vantzou of Brussels. The event was photographed by Chrissy Piper of Los Angeles.
Tracy Hopkins of Brooklyn, New York, was the best woman. Groomspeople were Brea Grant of Los Angeles, Jonathan Spies of Brooklyn, Jesse Hinson of Los Angeles and Nick Scott of Marshall, Texas.
Christine Hertzel of Pittsburgh was maid of honor. The bride’s sister, Dana Coyle of Maryland was matron of honor. Also in the bridal party were the bride’s other siblings, Katie Suthard, Kelly Smink and Frank Suthard, all of Maryland.
The women in the bridal party wore knee-length black lace dresses. Men wore black slacks, white shirts and wine-colored ties. Each carried a single red rose.
The bride wore a vintage ankle length gown fashioned of ecru lace and tulle with beaded pearl detailing at the knee line and a black ribbon sash at her waist. She also wore black Vera Wang “Royce” boots and a headpiece made from sprays of baby’s breath. She carried a bouquet of red roses, baby’s breath and hanging ivy. The flower stems were wrapped in black ribbon.
For her daughter’s wedding, Mrs. Suthard wore a knee-length lace dress in wine red. The bridegroom’s mother wore a custom-designed merlot-colored dupioni silk dress by Liza Reitz.
A luncheon reception was hosted by the bride’s parents at Maggiono’s Restaurant immediately following the ceremony. Guests were served an extensive array of Italian delicacies. Vegan wedding cupcakes were enjoyed by all. A celebratory after-party was held at the Black Cat Club the evening of the wedding. A family dinner was hosted by Drs. Gary and Dawn Banker at Red Rock Pizza Restaurant on Friday night.
