HAPPY 100th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION, SAMUEL!

Born in Philadelphia, PA. Samuel attended Philadelphia Public Schools. He is a graduate of the Simon Gratz High School. Samuel started his Christian Life at the Nazarene Baptist Church in Philadelphia. He currently is a member of the Miller Memorial Baptist Church. He married Frances M Peace on his birthday. They will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary this year. Although the couple had no children of their own, they raised their next-door neighbor, Maurice Williams.

A WWII Army Veteran, he was stationed in Europe. He was a Truck Driver for the Red Ball Express. The Red Ball Express was a famed truck convoy system of African American soldiers that supplied Allied forces moving quickly through Europe after breaking out from the D-Day beaches in Normandy in 1944.

He was employed for 38 years and 10 months as a heavy-duty ground equipment operator by the Edward G. Budd Manufacturing Plant, which made rail cars on Red Lion Road in Northeast Philadelphia.
