Don-
You know my life will never be the same without Susan. She was always there for me- no questions asked. Through the teen years, the 20's and beyond, our lives took different paths but we were always together in friendship. She was the sister I did not have. I will remember her forever and now pray she is at peace and at rest in Heaven. The hole in my heart will always be there because she is gone-

My name is Melissa. I was a student of Susan’s at Rolling Meadows High School. She was a very integral part of my past, shaping me into the woman I am today. She was a tough teacher, a teacher that took no excuses and expected to see you perform at your personal best. I remember the time I was relieved to receive an A on a project and she shocked me when she handed it back saying “You’re not finished”. She always pushed me to achieve excellence and nothing less. I enjoyed the times I made her proud, for I knew it was well deserved and I learned to trust her healthy criticism for it’s ultimate value of showing me how to ‘raise the bar‘. I’ve applied that same no-nonsense determination to my life and artwork ever since. Because of her encouragement, I pursued my artistic abilities with confidence and utmost respect. Art has an important place in my life, it is my refuge and celebration of life. Without Susan, I’m not sure I would have recognized that grand opportunity. Susan’s passion for art and teaching will live in my thoughts and every brushstroke. I dedicate this image of my painting titled Voice. Thank you Susan for helping me find my ‘voice’ through artistic expression. You will be fondly remembered and sorely missed. Light & Love...

This is a 2002 photo of Susan, before she suffered such prolonged physical and emotional pain. I will miss her loving, caring presence all my days.

Susan if I had known the last time you visted us would be your last, I would have hugged you harder, I would have asked you to stay and visit longer, and would have thanked you over and over for being such a good friend. Thank you for the great memories, for the garden tips and planting lessons and the beautiful flowers you gave me from your lovely garden in the early years when you loved gardening, for all the little angel statues because you knew I loved angels, how thoughtful you were. I'll think back smiling on the family vacations we shared in Florida, Mackanaw Island, DC and our last "ladies only" trip to San Francisco and Napa Valley, and all the "wine/whine" ladies nights with Bernadine, Brook, Carol and Rosa-we had great times didn't we? I loved you like a sister-don't ever forget that and I will miss you every time I'm home looking out the window and my eyes look South. Until we meet again...God and Angel Blessings. Don, my deepest sympathies. Susan was an inspiration to us all. For a fleeting moment, Elk Grove High School was blessed with her presence. She will never be forgotten.
