Mrs. Joyce Theis

1928 - 2008

Joyce Theis, 80, of Crystal River, Fl., died on December 5, 2008 at her home under the loving care of her family and Hospice of Citrus County. Joyce was born on August 31, 1928 in Mitchell, GA., the daughter of Dr. J.B. and Alice Oliphant. She was an instructor of x-ray technology at Macon Hospital in Macon, GA. Mrs. Theis was in Who's Who of American Women for her part in the development of Macon Hospital's X-Ray Technology School. She was also an Instructor of Medical Assistants at Southern Ohio College in Cincinnati, OH. Joyce and her husband John moved to Crystal River in 2000 from Cincinnati. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Hernando. Survivors include her husband of 43 years, John W. Theis, Jr. of Crystal River, FL., sons, J. William Theis, III (Traci) of Cincinnati, OH., and James O. Theis (Patty) of New Orleans, LA., daughter Alicia Theis of Crystal River, Fl., and four grandchildren, Jake, Joe, Nick and Emma all of Cincinnati, OH.
Visitation for Mrs. Theis will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, December 8, 2008, at the Heinz Funeral Home, 2507 Hwy 44 West, Inverness. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Hernando, FL. Pastor Kenneth C. Blythe will preside. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Adel, GA. The family suggests that memorials may be given to Hospice of Citrus County or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Hernando, FL.
