Helen Kalinowski, 93, of Sheatown, Newport Township, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Birchwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Nanticoke.
She was born April 30, 1921, in Alden, to the late Alex and Julia Wanchisen Kostek and attended Newport Township schools. Helen was also a member of Holy Resurrection Russian Orthodox Church, Alden.
She was employed as a factory worker for several years by Duplin Silk Mill and General Cigar, both in Nanticoke.
Helen was preceded in death by, in addition to her parents, her husband, Edward F., in 2006; brothers, Andrew Kostek and Michael Kostek; sisters, Mary Balutanski, Anna Sudick and Theresa Pearl Vernitas; four infant brothers and sisters; and nieces and nephews.
Presently surviving are a son, Edward A. Kalinowski and wife, Marlene, Nanticoke; grandchildren, Nadia Zukosky, Dallas; Marisa Turco, San Jose, Calif.; and Edward A. Kalinowski Jr., Alden; great-grandchildren, Taylor Kittle, Brooklyn Zukosky and Giuliana Zukosky; and loving pets, Ozzie, Belle, Laddy and Spooky.
Funeral services will take place at 9:30 a.m. Monday from Grontkowski Funeral Home P.C., 51-53 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with Divine Liturgy in Holy Resurrection Russian Orthodox Church, Alden, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Vladimir Petorak officiating. Interment will be in St. Vladimir's Cemetery, Alden Station.
Friends and relatives are invited to join the family for calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Parastas services will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday.
