Joseph C. Durkin, 78, of Mountain Top, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 22, 2016.
Son of the late Robert and Anna May Durkin of Carbondale, Joseph was the loving husband of Barbara for 52 years.
He is the father of Denise Durkin, Philadelphia; Suzanne Chupela, Mountain Top; Christine Bolen (Louis), Pittsburgh; and Kate Allegretti (Paul), Lancaster; grandfather of Erik and Tess Chupela, Sam Balliet, Annamae and Emily Bolen, and Olivia Allegretti.
A longtime member of Wyoming Valley Country Club, Joe proudly co-founded the annual Gray Beard Golf Tournament. He was an avid reader, history buff and sports enthusiast. An inspired cook, Joe was known for his chili and soups, but there was always room for pie.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at McCune Funeral Home, 80 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Jude Church, 420 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top.
