Frank Draus Obituary

Frank J. Draus of Philadelphia, born in Old Forge, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016, peacefully at his daughter's home surrounded by his family. He was 93 years of age, and receiving home hospice through Abington Memorial Hospital.

His parents were Charles and Antoinette Draus.

Frank was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Marie A. Draus (née Delaney); brothers, Stanley, Walter and Chester; and sisters, Helen, Patricia and Genevieve.

He is survived by his children, Susan Trycieki (Thomas) and Charles Draus (Nannette); his stepson, George McNulty; along with grandchildren, Thomas Trycieki, Sienna Draus, Maura Maula and George McNulty Jr.

As a teenager, during the Great Depression, Frank worked in the Civil Conservation Corps (CCC) and sent money to his widowed mother to help support the family.

Frank then became a decorated veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the early part of the Vietnam War. Frank proudly served in the Army Air Corps and U.S. Air Force, having seen extensive action in the Pacific Theater during World War II, the Berlin Airlift and the Cuban Missile Crisis, during the apex of the Cold War.

Frank earned his wings as a flight engineer on the C-124 Globemaster transport airplane. His duties took him around the world multiple times, and he accumulated more than 24,000 hours of flight time. Frank retired from the U.S. Air Force with the rank of senior master sergeant.

Frank was known for his mild demeanor and zest for life. Exercise was an important part of his daily routine. He loved walking, swimming, riding his bicycle and helping a neighbor in need. He is deeply missed by his family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Maternity BVM Church, 9220 Old Bustleton Ave., Philadelphia. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
