Elizabeth Bray Obituary

Elizabeth L. Bray, 100, formerly of Kingston, passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2016 at The Wesley Village, Jenkins Township.

Born in Kingston, she was the daughter of the late George S. and Bessie Kemp Bray.

She was a graduate of Kingston High School and Wilkes-Barre Business College. She became a certified professional secretary in 1956, and received the local Secretary of the Year Award in 1962. She became a Certified Braillist in 1968. She was also a member of the launched Literary Group, teaching adults to read.

She was employed as the secretary of Somerville Construction Co. for over 50 years. Prior to that, she was employed by Ruggles Lumber Co. for 11 years.

She was a life member of Church of Christ Uniting, Kingston, and served as a member of the senior choir for 60 years. She also served as a Sunday school teacher, superintendent of the Junior Department, and several terms as president of The Women's Fellowship.

Elizabeth loved to travel, was an avid reader and cut glass collector. She was happiest when she was selflessly caring for others. Her caring and dedication to her friends and family was profound and will be greatly missed.

Preceding her in death are her sister, Myrtle Slade; and brothers, George and Harry Bray.

Surviving are nieces, Joan Bray Roskos and husband, J. David, Shavertown; Arvilla Chapman and husband, Paul, Londonderry, N.H.; seven nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of Christ Uniting, Market and Sprague avenues, Kingston, with the Rev. Dr. Carol Ann Fleming officiating. The interment will held in Forty Fort Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.

I signed the guest book but it didn't show my name. I am very sorry for your loss. I loved her, too.

My heartfelt sympathy to Joan and the family. Your Aunt Elizabeth was a wonderful woman. Someone else has said she was "classy and intelligent." She sure was. We all loved her and feel her loss.

I am so sorry I cannot be there to celebrate her life. My aunt had a tremendous influence in my life from being an example of faith, to teaching me how to hem my dress, to cultivating a love for learning and travel. I love you, Aunt Elizabeth. So glad you are safely home.

An intelligent, classy, and professional woman. It was a pleasure to have known her through-out my childhood and beyond. Goodbye, Ms. Bray.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
