Lena Puchalsky Obituary

Lena Ann Puchalsky, 89, a resident of Trucksville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday morning, Sept. 8, 2016, at the home of her daughter, Christine Mathers.

Her beloved husband was the late John Edward Puchalsky, who passed away Feb. 3, 2012. Together, John and Lena were blessed to share 63 wonderful years of marriage.

Born Sept. 1, 1927, in Swoyersville, Lena was one of eight children born to the late Giovanni Batista Orlandini and Pasqua (Nerini) Orlandini.

Raised in Swoyersville, Lena was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School, Class of 1945. Lena later went on to attend Empire Beauty School in Wilkes-Barre, where she received her certification in cosmetology.

Lena was a devoted homemaker most of her life, and she lovingly tended to the daily needs of her home and family. She also worked part-time for many years in the local garment industry, and held membership with the International Ladies' Garment Workers Union.

A faithful Catholic, Lena was a longtime member of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church, Carverton. Throughout her life, Lena had a strong devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

First and foremost, Lena was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her life was centered on her family, and she reveled in every one of her loved ones' accomplishments. A special place in her heart was reserved for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she had a special bond with each of them.

Home was truly the hub for the Puchalsky family, and Lena made sure her home was warm, inviting and comfortable for everyone. She was meticulous about keeping both the inside and outside of her home in pristine condition.

Holidays and family events were made all the more special by Lena's love for baking. From nut and poppyseed rolls to cookies and cakes, Lena could bake just about anything, and she loved sharing her baked goods with her family and friends. Lena's love and knack for baking was so well known that an article was written in the newspaper about it some years ago.

Lena was a natural-born caregiver, and, over the years, she not only cared for her husband, children and grandchildren, but she also cared for her mother, mother-in-law, extended family, friends and neighbors. Her loving and nurturing persona brought comfort to so many throughout her life.

In her senior years, Lena took up golf, and it quickly became one of her favorite pastimes. She and a few of her lady friends enjoyed many days of leisure out on the greens!

Although it was hard to bid farewell to such an exemplary woman, there is much joy in knowing that she is reunited with her husband, John, and all her family and friends who have gone before her.

In addition to her parents, Giovanni and Pasqua Orlandini, and her husband, John, Lena was preceded in death by her brothers, Frank, Otavio, Corry, Amerigo, Albert and Leo Orlandini; her sister, Jennie Orlandini; and her son-in-law, Gary Mathers.

Lena is survived by her children, Christine Mathers, Trucksville; John Puchalsky and his wife, Beth Ann, Trucksville; and David Puchalsky and his wife, Jane Ashton, Harveys Lake; her grandchildren, Michael Mathers, Nina Van Mater and her husband, Steve, Henry Jack Puchalsky and Tara Charron and her husband, Francis; her great-grandchildren, Mia and Claire Van Mater and Zack and Mila Charron; as well as her many cousins, nieces and nephews. And Lena would not want us to forget her loving and faithful canine companion, "Ginger."

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Mass, which will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church, 585 Mount Olivet Road, Carverton, with the Rev. Vincent H. Dang officiating.

The family will receive friends immediately following the Mass, and details will be announced at the church about a luncheon to follow.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Wroblewski Funeral Home Inc., 1442 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort.
