Leona Frances (Super) Powell, 89, died peacefully Oct. 12, 2016 at Lakewood Manor in Henrico.
She was a beloved wife and mother who was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Johanna Super; her 12 siblings; her dear husband, Bill Powell; her beloved son, Billy Powell; and her darling dog, Althea.
She is survived by her daughter, Johanna, Midlothian; her sister-in-law, Diana Super, Oceanport, N.J.; her nieces, Sharon Super, Oceanport, N.J.; and Patricia Young, Gaithersburg, Md.; her nephews, Joseph Mirra (Cindy), Dallas; Michael Mirra (Joan), Mountain Top; Leonard Super, Brick, N.J.; and Sean Young (Rahima), Washington, D.C.; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Leona was a graduate of Kingston High School in Kingston, Class of 1945. She worked part-time as a bookkeeper, retiring from Cauthorne Paper Co. in 1989. She was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Bon Air. She taught Sunday school, was a Girl Scout Leader, a softball coach, a Quarterback Club Team Mom, ran the concession stand at Little League baseball games, and played bridge with her Monday night bridge group for years. She loved going to William & Mary football games, reading novels on her iPad late into the night, and taking the dog for car rides around town. She was a fan of the Redskins and the Seahawks, VCU Rams basketball, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and CNBC.
She was loved, and will be missed.
The family received friends Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, in St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, with a Mass of Christian Burial following. Interment was in Westhampton Memorial Park. Arrangements are with Woody Funeral Home, Huguenot Chapel.
