Ellen Candice Kocher, 72, formerly of Wilkes-Barre passed away at her Penn Lake residence surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, after a lengthy illness.
Born June 29, 1944, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence W. Ulrich and Lillian Ulrich Blisseck. Ellen attended GAR Memorial High School. She worked at Kory Manufacturing in Wilkes-Barre and she retired in August 2015 after 38 years of dedicated service at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township.
Ellen enjoyed bingo, trips to Atlantic City and many family vacations. Most of all she enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren.
Surviving are her daughters, Ellen Al-Saigh and her husband, Abdul, Wilkes-Barre; and Sharon Hughes and her husband, Robert, Penn Lake; grandchildren, Nichole Malinovitch McDermott and her husband, Brian; Amanda and Brittany Hughes; and Alycia Al-Saigh; great-granddaughter, Angela Malinovitch; brothers, Lawrence Ulrich and his wife, Lisa; and William Ulrich; aunt, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre. Private funeral services with interment in Mount Greenwood Cemetery, Shavertown, will be held at the convenience of the family.

Sharon, I am so sorry for your loss. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. Your mom was a good woman. I remember playing cards with her at my Uncle Bobby's house.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, Ellen, Abdul, Sharon, Nicole, Amanda, Brittany, Alycia, Suzie and Sara. "Candy" loved and lived for her families and was a devoted Grandma to all of the Grandchildren. I remember her, fondly and will keep her in my daily prayers. RIP, dear one.
