Mrs. Helen Frances Renk Hanchulak, 95, formerly of Bear Creek, passed peacefully Friday, Jan. 24, 2017, at Mountain Top Senior Care Center assisted by the Hospice of the Sacred Heart.
She was born April 18, 1921 in Maple Grove, Wis. and baptized at the local St. Patrock's Church, graduating from the Class of 1933, North Division High School, Milwaukee, Wis.
Helen retired from American Airlines in 1962 after a rewarding career as a stewardess where she was honored and respected, accompanying many prominent officials; serving the 35th President Kennedy, as well as presidential candidate Herbert Hoover and Adlai Stevenson, incumbent of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. She had the privilege of attending both the 1955 Chicago Democratic National Committee Dinner and the memorial services for JFK.
Helen then became the bride of 34 years, to her only sweetheart, the late Raymond N. Hanchulak, in a marriage service conducted at St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York City, officiated by the Venerable Fulton J. Sheen. Helen was an active member of the Bear Creek Association and attended St. Mary's (Prokova) Byzantine Church, Kingston. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished especially by her daughter, Anna Maria Hanchulak, Bear Creek.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents from Maple Grove, Wis.; Albert A. Renk (1978); and Anastasia Nagel Renk (1938); brothers, Aloysius and Roman; several nieces and nephews.
The Office of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Saint Mary's (Prokova) Protection of the Mother of God, Byzantine Catholic Church, 321 Chestnut Ave., Kingston. The Rev. Mykhaylo Prodanets, pastor, will serve as celebrant. Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in St. Mary's Parish Cemetery Chapel in Pringle.
Friends and family are welcome to call at 10:30 a.m. in the church vestibule prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer's Association as a memorial gift on behalf of Helen to help fight Alzheimer's disease at (800) 272-3900 or www.alz.org.
