Sarah Benscoter Obituary

Sarah Agnes Benscoter, 93, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, in Hampton House, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Nanticoke, Sarah was the daughter of the late William and Daisy Belles, a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the first in her family to graduate from the Newport School System.

She was predeceased by six brothers and four sisters; her loving husband, John Robert; and her caring son, Dale, of New Jersey.

While living in New Jersey, Sarah and John foster-parented more children for the United Family Children's Services than any couple ever had. Upon returning to Nanticoke she worked for Nanticoke Mental Health Services and the Lutheran Children's Bureau, resulting in the adoption of Mark Benscoter. True to her spirit she loved solving word puzzles, baking, crocheting, her plants and casino trips.

She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her daughter-in-law, Sandra; grandchildren, John, Jessie Ann and James; great-grandsons, Aaron, William and Eric; and her many nieces, nephews and good friends.

A memorial will be held at the convenience of the family.
