Ruth Elizabeth Williams Briggs was born in Plymouth on Aug. 14, 1916.
She went home to be with her Lord, peacefully, Tuesday morning, June 20, 2017, at home.
Ruth attended a one-room school house in Ceasetown, graduating from Harter High School in 1935.
After graduation, Ruth married the late Mr. Irving W. Briggs and had six children from the union.
Mrs. Briggs lived the last 18 years with her daughter and son-in-law, the Revs. Daniel and Sylvia Thomas of Wilkes-Barre.
Mrs. Briggs is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, as well as her son, the Rev. Ronald Briggs, and her daughter-in-law, Doris, Harrisburg; and son, Robin, and daughter-in-law, Julie, North Carolina. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Debbie, Karen and Bill, Susan, Ruthann and Danny, Douglas and Ronald, Anissa, Kendra and Robin Lee Briggs II. Also surviving are 18 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Briggs is survived by her siblings, Mrs. Dorothy Moody, Mrs. Louise Johnson, Mr. Robert Williams, Mrs. Margaret Cornell, Mrs. Lily Tomassacci and Mrs. Shirley Pierontoni.
Preceding Mrs. Briggs in death were her parents, William and Lily Williams; baby sister, Susan; brothers, Earnest, William and Edward Williams; sons, Irving W. Briggs Jr., David, her very special son, and William, her first born; and her grandchildren, Wayne Briggs and his sister, Donna Cahill.
Mrs. Briggs worked in different jobs, starting at the Duplan Silk Mill in Nanticoke, numerous dress factories, and lastly retiring from driving a forklift for ShopRite in New Jersey. She moved to Bricktown, N.J,. where she enjoyed boating and crabbing.
Ruth moved back to Pennsylvania in 1987, living in Alden until moving to Wilkes-Barre in 1998.
Mrs. Briggs attended Nanticoke Assembly of God Church for a number of years, then attended the Cross Valley Assembly of God Church for a short time. She later attended the Larksville Mountain Full Gospel Church, where she and her son, David, played the tambourines. She became a member of the Berean Lighthouse, a Full Gospel Church in Nanticoke in 2003. On special occasions she sang in the choir and also was the oldest sibling of the "Williams Family" that sang in the church on numerous occasions.
Ruth loved the Lord Jesus and played the tambourine on Palm Sunday this year, the last time she was able to attend services.
A viewing will be held at Williams-Hagen Funeral Home, 114 W. Main St., Plymouth, from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Berean Lighthouse Church, 2 W. Green St., Nanticoke.
Interment will be held in Edge Hill Cemetery.
