John V. "Jack" Bartoli Sr. of Wilkes-Barre, formerly of Pittston, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Timber Ridge Health Care Center in Wilkes-Barre at the age of 84.
Jack was born March 14, 1933, in Pittston, to Filbert Bartoli and Marcella Austrus Bartoli. He grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from Pittston High School in 1951.
Jack served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and worked as a cook for many years, most notably in the family catering business associated with Bartoli's Cafe.
He was an active member of St. Mary's Assumption parish in Pittston, serving as a cantor and Eucharistic minister for many years. Jack also loved catering meals at church communion breakfasts and mourner's meals.
He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, extremely generous spirit, love of cinema and conversation, and strong faith.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Concetta Butera Bartoli; his parents; his sisters, Marguerite and Elizabeth; and his brother, David.
He is survived by his brother, Filbert and wife, Zakya, Alexandria, Va.; daughter, Anne Marie Zabresky and her husband, Jonathan, Forty Fort; son, John V. Bartoli and his wife, Heather, Pyeongtaek, South Korea; seven grandchildren, Karina and Thomas Zabresky, Forty Fort; and Grace, Benjamin, Abigail, Joshua and Anna Claire, Pyeongtaek, South Korea; most loyal family friend, Thomas Smith, Cherry Hill, N.J.; nieces; nephews; and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Hughes Street, Swoyersville. Family and friends may call one hour before the Mass in the church. Interment will be held in St. Mary's Assumption Cemetery, Hughestown.
Arrangements are by Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S. Main St., Plains Twp.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes St., Swoyersville, PA 18704, or a charity of the donor's choice.
