Helen Carr Kozak, our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed on from this world Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2022.
The daughter of the late Andrew and Helen Bodnar, she was born in South River, N.J., on Oct. 13, 1941. She graduated from South River High School and in 1971 moved to Pennsylvania to raise her seven children.
Helen was a woman who gave all she had to her family and asked for nothing in return. Her chocolate-covered pretzels were legendary, and she tirelessly made them for every holiday and special occasion. Her quirky sense of humor could always put a smile on your face. Helen worked at Offset Paperback for over 33 years and was proud that no book had misprints under her watch. In 1995 she married John Kozak, who adored her. You could always find her in her garden, lovingly taking care of her flowers and feeding her hummingbird, Herman.
She is survived by her children, Deborah Fabbrini (Ken); John Carr III (Regina); Kenneth Carr; Robert Carr; Glenn Carr (Heather); and Donald Carr (Charity). She has 20 grandchildren, Brenda, George, Kristan, Sherry, Eric, Jessica, Ashley, Kyle, Kevin, John IV, Ken Jr., Sean, Devin, Robert Jr., Abigail, Devin, Glenn, Zachary, Alicia and Grace; along with 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Arlene Bordel; and many dear nieces and nephews.
Her beautiful daughter, Dawn Carr preceded her in death; along with her beloved, husband, John; sister, MaryAnn Wolfinger; and "eighth child," Max, her dog.
A memorial service is planned for noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, N.Y., and a graveside memorial service is planned for the spring in Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
