Marc LeRoy Roach Sept. 13, 1964 Feb. 24, 2008 Resident of San Ramon Beloved son of LeRoy and Erma Roach, caring brother of Michael Roach, treasured nephew, cousin and friend. Marc was a gentle and kind man who touched the lives of everyone he met. He was a Rock of Gibraltar to his family and supportive friend to many people. He was born in Tulare, California and graduated from Acalanes High School in Lafayette, California. Marc earned a Bachelor of Science Degree with an emphasis in Aqua-culture from the University of California at Davis. Immediately following graduation, he worked as a Marine Biologist at the Oceanic Institute in Oahu, Hawaii. He then became an Aquaculture Specialist in Micronesia on Kosrae Island, followed by research and development of giant clam farms in the Marshall Islands on Mili Atoll. His job included daily diving activities in some of the world's most beautiful coral reefs. Upon returning to the US mainland, he worked for the California Department of Fish and Game prior to entering work in the computer technology field. His recent employment was as a contractor for Computer Sciences Corporation at Washington Mutual in Plea-santon, California. His greatest love was being in touch with nature as an avid hiker and a traveler. He hiked numerous trails throughout California, and in several US National Parks. He also loved trekking during trips abroad including trips to New Zealand, Tasmania, Australia, Tahiti and Costa Rica. He spent many weekends volunteering for trail restoration and ecology projects throughout the Bay Area. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service on Saturday, March 1, 2008, at 1:00 P.M. in the Inspiration Chapel at Oakmont Memorial Park in Lafayette, CA. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Sierra Club in memory of Marc Roach, a naturalist and environmentalist. Donations can be made to the Sierra Club Foundation, 85 Second Street, 2nd Floor, San Francisco, CA 94105.

My cousin Marc Roach was a kind, gentle, and adventurous man--the kind of person who, after you met him, you'd say, "Damn, I want to get to know that guy better!" Sadly, none of us will have that opportunity.

Marc will be sorely missed. He was the most genuinely nicest person I've ever met. Always in a good mood, always smiling and always laughing.
You could hear his goofy laugh from 4 or 5 rows away, and it would make everyone else laugh because it was always great to have him around. And when he came over, the first thing to see was the bed-head, and then you'd have to look at his shirt to see if it was inside out or not.
He was just starting to get interested in geocaching, which would be awesome for him being such the outdoorsman. If he didn't tell anyone about it, it's basically using a GPS device to find things that other people have hidden in random places. They're all over the hills, hiking trails and every place you could think of.
I wish I could have taken him more than the one time. I'm sure he would have had fun with it. I've sent out a 'geocoin' in memory of him. A geocoin is basically a trackable item that moves from cache to cache to do the travelling that you can't do. I'm hoping that his spirit is going along with it to go all the places he didn't get to yet.
Here's the link if anyone wants to take a look at it every once in a while. If you have problems with it, please let me know. [email protected]

Dear Roach Family,
My deepest sympathy to you all during this difficult time. May your memories bring you comfort. Many of us at work have been sharing memories of Marc; his running around, his dedication of getting work done, his stories of hikes and travels, his messy hair, etc.
I know I will miss him and I will always remember him.
Please accept my deepest sympathies. Marc is in my thoughts and prayers, as well as you all are during this time of grief.
Sincerely,
Maribel Duarte

Marc is missed very much. I don't get to hear him laugh any more, or get to bug him. Marc was great friend to us in desktop support and helped us with his knowledge of different applications. He was a very smart and gentle man and will be missed.
