Arun Bhai,
Eight years ago when I wrote that all important letter/email to you asking you to get me out of my personal miseries, you did. I left my past behind and came here on a wing of prayer and then, suddenly you decided to move to your heavenly abode. I struggled to find my feet on this foreign soil w/o your personal guidance and I thought I had succeeded until recently, when I found that my American Dream lies all but shattered. I am at a juncture where I do not know whether to continue chasing this elusive dream with the help of my parental family who have been extremely supportive, or to go back to reality which I couldn't tolerate and ran away from in the first place.
I need spiritual guidance and would like you to come in my dreams sometime and tell me what to do. I know you are somewhere around and are listening to me. I, personally miss you a lot.
Forever grateful,
Rakesh

Each year that passes, I think to myself: by NEXT year, I'll be used to it. By NEXT year, I'll have begun to believe that Arun is no longer alive. And next year arrives and is this year and then last year and still I am no closer to belief or acceptance.
As Robert Louis Stevenson wrote:
“Love makes people believe in immortality because there seems not be room
enough in life for so great a tenderness
and it is inconceivable that the most masterful
of our emotions should have no more than
the spare moments of a few brief years.”

Dear Nuthan and family,
I now have finished my second year of study towards ordination as a Roman Catholic deacon and remember Arun fondly in my daily prayers as someone who really helped to shape my faith. My prayer is that he is at peace and one with God.
As Mahatma Gandhi stated, "the divine radio is always singing if we could make ourselves ready to listen to it, but it is impossible to do without silence”.
May we all spend some time in silence each day to ponder the goodness of the Almighty (no matter how we name him) and be loving servants to each other in this life.
My love and prayers are with you,

Dear Nuthan and family -
It seems both so long ago and yet so recently that Arun left this life as we all knew him in order to embark upon his next one.
I continue to think of Arun often and am thankful for the very positive and enduring influence that he had upon me both professionally and personally.
Once quick story - I just finished my first year of study towards ordination as a Permanent Deacon in the Roman Catholic Church. 1 year down - three to go!
At the end of this first year, I was asked to name two individuals that truly helped me to understand and live the teachings of my Christian faith. I immediately named Arun along with my late father - both of them embodied in their daily actions the true meaning of how to be kind, loving and of service to others.
While Arun and I practiced different religions, we lived a common truth.
Patti and I continue to pray for Arun and all of the Gupta family, and for an end to peace, violence, hunger and suffering in our world.
With love and respect,
Lee Padron

Just heard John Walsh speak. He is the now famous man who lost his 6 year old son to a predator almost 30 years ago.
Walsh lamented that the lack of a "predator" database hampered the investigation. I immediately thought of Arun's DataEase, just coming on the scene back then.
How many lives have been saved because Arun conceived DataEase, the single greatest relational database ever brought to the PC? No really think about it. Surely, millions of applications were created that made business more efficient, a noble cause itself. But, how many DataEase applications saved lives?
Think of the original DataEase motivation and application . . . MedEASE. Remember that? And, many more to follow. Arun's DataEase brought to life hundreds, perhaps thousands of medically oriented applications putting life saving information at professional's fingertips. There are dozens of medical applications that could not have been done without DataEase. I can personally testify to that fact.
Joel Richmond says it well: "the Brilliance of his creation has not been matched."
Arun, your legacy is clear. You touched the world in so many ways. You and your genius are remembered and missed, every day.

Hey Gary . . .
Thanks for reminding me about Fall, DataEase and Arun Gupta. It all comes back . . . another chance to talk about DataEase at the annual conference and thoughts of new hope for the coming year. Long after Arun had moved on from DataEase, I still remembered that without him, there would have been no such product.
And, you know what . . . I'm still using DataEase. Just pulled it up this week and fired off another report. How many 25 year old programs are still on my PC? None! Except good 'ole DataEase. What does that say about Arun?
It's a binary tribute to the genius Arun!

I always think of you every June 5th, Arun (aside from countless others). It was the day that celebrated the start of your life--a very special day. I can't even think of you on the day of your passing, because of what it represents. Actually, I'm not quite sure anymore, which is a good thing. But what I do regret forgetting was to come back to this testimonial legacy of love and affection for you, and record my remembrance. Better late than never, as they say. ;-)
The warm season is over and fall has officially begun; the days are getting cooler. They still feel a bit colder without you in our lives. You are still so greatly missed, Arun. But the thoughts of all the good you brought into the world helps warm things back up a bit. Take care and God bless...

It now is almost five years since Arun's passing from this life and I still think of him daily and the profound impact that he had upon me as a human being.
As just one example - I am about to embark upon a 4 year course of study for ordination as a Permanent Deacon in the Roman Catholic Church. During the 18 month interview and admissions process, I was asked a number of times who were my greatest Christian role models and I named Arun, a Hindu, as one of them every time. His example of love and kindness, respect for others and non-judgemental behavior served as an important example for me - I only wish that I could be half as generous in spirit and kindness as he was.
While we all miss him, he is with us every day in our hearts and that can never change.
Patti and I pray for you Nutan and family every day.
With great affection,
