Gracie Jordan Obituary
She is survived by her son, Jerome P. Banks; two daughters, Tracy S. Banks and Chanda P. Jordan; grandson, Jovan S. Banks; two granddaughters, Nicole D. Green and Ahmon D. Lucas; a great-granddaughter, Jordyn C. Green; two aunts, two sisters, two brothers, and a host of family and friends.
Viewing will be held noon to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th St., Newport News, VA 23607. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at First Baptist Church, Jefferson Park. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

My hearaatfelt sympathy to the Jordan family. I graduated from HHS in 1962. As I read the names of her children, grands, and great grands, I see legasies that will continue to share love for others. What a blessing.

I had the honor of knowing Mrs. Gracie from "The Cafe" at Hampton University. She was known as the nice cafe lady. She seem to enjoy her job and enjoy the students she served and I really appreciated her smiling face and loving and kind words. She always had a wonderful attitude and will be greatly missed! RIP and God Bless!

My deepest condolences go out to the Jordan family. I am a 2006 graduate of Hampton University and Ms. Gracie as we called her was such a sweet spirit in the cafe. You could tell she had a genuine love for all the students there. She will be missed by former and present Hampton students and faculty. God bless!

Ms. Gracie was definitely a sweet spirit that made our time at Hampton University more like home. She always made sure that we had enough and did it with a warm smile and kind demeanor. God bless this family during this time. I really did not know Ms. Gracie; she served me and thousands of other Hampton Institute Students back in the late 70s and early 80s in the cafe. But I could tell she cared by her sweet, familiar refrain: "Gravy baby?" You could tell she was somebody's momma and that she had a heart for children, which we were whether we wanted to admit it or not. God bless Ms. Gracie's memory.
