Theodore Miles Obituary
A longtime Hampton resident, he worked as a regional salesman for J. D. Hudson Co. An avid tennis player and sailor, he was a member of the Hampton Yacht Club and had recently taken up golf. Ted was a core crew on the sailing yacht Orange Blossom Special when it won best in its class for the entire Chesapeake Bay. His team playing, quick wit, cheerful attitude, and infectious laugh will be fondly remembered by all who were lucky enough to make his acquaintance.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Barbara and Tom Armstrong of Florida; his father and stepmother, Ted F. and JoAnn Miles; his sister and brother-in-law, Stephanie and Ken Winston; his stepsister and stepbrother, Elaine Wren and Dodd Coleman, all of Mechanicsville, Va.; his grandmother, Hazel Emory; his aunt, Jean Rowell of Hampton; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14, in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Jack Linkous Jr.

I was friends with Ted for many years until I moved away in 2003 and we somehow lost touch. I am shocked and saddened to hear of his death. I thought of him almost daily. My Deepest sympathies go out to Ted's Family and Friend's! I knew him as my sales rep for several years and he always had a smile on his face, firm hand shake and a joke to tell you. I will miss him.

I met Ted in 1979. I worked with him in my 1st job out of college. I was his inside salesman and - "he showed me the ropes". While I was only there for a year or so before transferring out of town with that company, I learned a lot from him. Distance and time held forth that we wouldn't see each other again; I having moved about quite a lot.
What I learned from Ted was, focus on the customer and their needs. Give it your all....enjoy it while doing it.
While having not seen him for almost 30 years - what I learned from him has served me very well and stood the test of time.
Ted, I thank you for your mentorship....I wish you peace.

Ted was a good friend of mine. I guess we knew each other for better than 20 years. Our business dealings were many. I will miss Ted and I pass on my most sincere condolences to his family and many friends. What an incredible loss we must all feel. God Bless.

Ted and I were very close friends back in the 1970s.I moved away and we lost touch.I moved back to Hampton just a couple of months ago but could not get in contact with Ted.I will always remember Ted and the good times we had.I have spent hours in laughter due to his incredible sense of humor.I even recall his little dog, Thumper.Ted was a wonderful guy and "one of a kind".Please accept my deepest sympathy.I'll pray for you.Peace.............Richard

what a shock to lose such a good friend and person. Although I had not been back to Hampton in a while Ted was one I kept in contact with over the years. He always had a way to make you laugh or see the good side of bad situations. I will always have fond memories of "Ted Miles" and I will miss you my friend I truly will.
