Alice West Obituary

POQUOSON - Alice T. West, 81, peacefully went with her Lord on the evening of Aug. 11, 2008. A lifetime resident of Ford City, Pa., she had spent the past several years in Virginia at the homes of her sons.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Patsy; infant daughter, Rita; parents, John and Stella Quattrone; a sister, Lillian Schmaus; and son-in-law, Daniel Cousins.
She is survived by two brothers, Paul Quattrone of Tonawanda, N.Y., and Salvatore and Alda Quattrone of Rome, Italy. She will be greatly missed by her children and their families: Patrick and Joyce West of Windsor, Va.; John and Mary West of East Stroudsburg, Pa.; Jim and Rose West of Poquoson, Va.; and Mary Ann Cousins and Gary Lukehart of Ford City, Pa. Five children were blessed to call her Grandma: Allison Cousins, Jacki Kilgore and Danny Cousins; and Tyler and Madison West; and she was Great Grandma to Annalise, Lilian and Bella. She is also survived by several special nieces and nephews.
A devout Catholic, she was a member of Prince of Peace parish in Ford City, Pa. Raising her family and the love of Jesus and the Blessed Mother were her greatest joys. As her children became adults, she enjoyed a wide range of experiences with them from vacations and special restaurants to watching movies and the soaps together.
A Mother's love can never be replaced and she will leave a hole in many hearts. Even those who only met her briefly, from the rescue squad to therapists to our friends in Virginia, were touched by her gentleness and her ability to make them smile. She absolutely lit up in the presence of babies and children and was able to look for that innocent joy in the faces of adults, too. We will now remain precious babies in her heart forever.
Friends are encouraged to visit www.mem.com to share words of comfort with the family.
A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at the Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home Chapel, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23666.
Services and interment will be held in her native Ford City, Pa., on Friday, Aug. 15.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Poquoson Rescue Squad, 830 Poquoson Ave., Poquoson, VA 23662. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Dear Rose, Jim and Family,

From the beautiful bridal portrait and touching tribute to Jim’s mom in today’s paper, it is so clear that her unending love for her family was returned to her many times over. In the days to come, I hope the memories of happier times will help ease the loss of one who was cherished beyond measure. Remembering you all in my prayers,
