Oliver Love Obituary

YORKTOWN - On Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, Oliver 'Big O' Love Sr. entered into eternal life. He peacefully crossed over into the Land of Glory, in his home surrounded by his loving family and his Hospice Care Nurse of Personal Touch Hospice.
His life began on Jan. 23, 1940, the son of the late Beatrice and Grady Love Sr. of Statesboro, Ga.
He attended the Public Schools of Statesboro and graduated from William James High School. Around 48 years ago, he moved to the Virginia area and made this area his home. He attended New Zion Baptist Church on Longhill Road. In December of 1997, he retired from the Army Air Force Exchange Services (AAFES) after more than 40 years of dedicated service. Throughout his years of employment, he made many lifelong friends.
Oliver had a wonderful life which was filled with love for his family and friends. He had a great personality which endeared him to all and he left with everyone who knew him a lasting impression of wisdom and love. 'Big O' loved car racing and was a devoted NASCAR fan. His engaging conversations, thoughtfulness and his kind heart will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his loving wife, Esther; his sons, Oliver Love Jr. (Melissa) and Daryl Love Sr. (Tammie); his grandchildren, Courtney Whitt, Aubrie, Oliver III 'Jordan,' Zachery 'Zach' and Daryl Jr. 'Trent'; his sisters, Loretha Bessent (William) of North Carolina and Janice K. Anderson of Georgia; his brother, Grady 'Bobby' Love Jr. (Nira) of Ohio; his aunts, Thelma Payne of Virginia, Louise Love of Ohio, Inez Love of Maryland, Sarah Lee of Georgia, and Lucille Smith of Georgia; his brothers-in-law, Alvin Taylor (Shirley) of Virginia and Charles Taylor (Beverly) of Maryland; his sister-in-law, Ellamaurde Carmichael of Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and many caring friends.
A funeral service celebrating the life he lived will be held noon Wednesday, Aug. 20, in New Zion Baptist Church with Dr. Robert A. Whitehead Sr. officiating. Entombment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. Family and friends will assemble by 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at 403-D Arcadia Loop. Mr. Love may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

To the Family of Mr. Oliver Love,

I was so very sorry to hear of the passing of such a great man and true inspiration. Although only knowing Oliver professionally, He truly inspired me thru challenge and work ethic. A man of incredible honor, I was truly a better man because of my relationship with him. God be with the entire Love Family. I hope knowing that Oliver touched and inspired me to be a better person is of some comfort to the family and is a worthy tribute to a great man. I am truly sadden by our loss.

Just wanted to convey our condolenses in the lost of your husband. For we know the great pain of losing a loved one. May God continue to grant you His inner peace and loving grace for He is the great healer and divine comforter. We pray for you daily. Right now it is so very hard to understand why this must be. For God has a great plan greater than the eye can see or the heart can encompass. May God forever bless and keep you in His loving care.

Oliver Jr. and Daryl,

I am sorry to hear of your father's passing. I remember first meeting your father through Danny Hamlin at the Class 6 store many years ago however I never put two and two together until I had to drop some papers from the funeral home home off to your mother in reference to her aunt. Again, I am deeply sorry and I will keep your family in my prayers.

I was working in HR when Oliver was promoted to management. I watched him develop in to one of the best managers at Fort Eustis. I hope he was able to go fishing before his illness struck.
My heart goes out to his wife and children at this time.

Oliver had a tremendous heart with room for everyone he met. A stranger was as welcome as the oldest friend. It will always be a privilege to have known this fine man and he will remain with us for the rest of our lives. Our family was made richer through him and we will never forget his smile and laughter.

Dear Esther & Family,
No words can express how sorry I am for the lost of such a wonderful person. Oliver was one of the kindess men I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. He always had a warm smile and congenial personality. I'm sad to say that it's been too long since I've seen you, but I cherish the memories of our youth and our days at Fort Eustis, VA. May God bless you and your family during your time of lost. Remember, "Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal"
