Raymond Edward "Monk" Williams

Raymond Williams Obituary

DANDY - Raymond Edward 'Monk' Williams, 81, a native and lifelong resident of Dandy, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Aug. 22, 2008.
Raymond and his wife, Marion 'Flip' Williams, raised their five children in their home in Dandy. He was a carpenter and a waterman by trade. He loved working in his garden and sharing his crops and fish with his family and neighbors. Raymond was an avid baseball lover and always rooted for his Baltimore Orioles. He was a charter member of Dandy Baptist Church, and was a member of the Carpenters Local Union #396.
Raymond was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Marion 'Flip' Williams; his parents, Fred Williams and Ella-Roston Williams; two brothers, Fred and Harold; and two sisters, Bessie and Ella.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory, three daughters, Wanda Holland of Gloucester, Janet Williams of Newport News, Vickie Sexton and her husband, Paul, of Dandy; two sons, Dale Williams and his wife, Ilona, of Poquoson and Wayne Williams of Dandy. He is also survived by a granddaughter, Jennifer Thomas (Todd); six grandsons, Bryan Smith (Meredith), Steven Smith, Troy Williams (Carrie), Daniel Sexton (Amy), Wade Sexton and Craig Sexton; four great-grandchildren, Austin, Shelby, Jared and Alex; a sister, Grace Williams of Grafton; and a host of family and friends.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Bon Secours Hospice, and nurses Brenda Laughhunn and Tiffany Miller for all their care. In addition, a special thanks to Judy Johnson (Daddy's Buddy), and Carolyn Speight for the care and love they gave to our Dad. Dad's laughter and love will be greatly missed by all.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, in Peninsula Memorial Park with the Rev. Robert Law officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, in Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, and at other times at the residence on 1108 Dandy Loop Road. To Monk and Flip's Family,
Please accept my deepest sympathies. Sorry to hear about Monks passing. I have very fond memories as a kid growing up in Dandy. My late mom and dad ("Tunie" Ben and Patsy Riggins) were friends and neighbors. I remember Monk always had a smile and joke ready. He will be missed.

Dear Dale, Wanda, Vickie, Janet , Wayne and the "whole ' wonderful WIlliams family,
Where do I begin to tell you how much I love this family and all of Dandy. When you begin your life
in such a wonderful.community as Dandy, you hold the memories and people dear to your heart.
Your daddy was such a precious person , who loved everyone, and was loved by everyone.
This family is quite unique, they are a very close family, always helping each other and reaching out to help everyone around them.Your dad could make you laugh and had a heart of GOLD.
Our mothers were good friends and helped each other as they both battled cancer, and I know they are in heaven together with your dad, Archie, Doodle,Wilbur Uncle Tony, Calvin and so many others and are now watching over all of us.
We may have moved from Dandy , but three little "Belvin" girls Betty , Linda and Alice never
let Dandy and all the special people there leave our hearts , because it will always be Home to us.
I will hold very dear the memories of "My Friday Visits" from
Monk every week in the summer , when he would
bring my soft crabs to my job at Grafton Garage.
His laugh and smile and special hug was worth a million dollars. I loved visiting with him and the family last year at Dandy Day sitting on the front porch and laughing with him and all of you. Wanda, it seems like only yesterday that we were playing in Dandy , running up and down the river shore as we called it., and all the kids of Dandy picking up wood shavings from a boat Big Daddy was building, and catching soft crabs and Bible School at Dandy Chapel, and Frances Ealey giving us Juicy Fruit Gum before Church, summer Dandy get- togethers at Leslie Dawsons Crab House,
then graduating from York High School. Each one of you
were so good to your daddy and he loved each of you so much. When I fix soft crabs and crab cakes I always think of Monk and laugh. Just as Henry Hogge said, You were truly blessed with one of Dandy's finest dads. May God continue to watch over and bless the Williams family forever.
Always keep his stories alive and his jokes, it will keep him close to your heart. When you are out on his boat crabbing and fishing he is right there with each of you. HE is watching over Dandy.
God Bless each of you and God Bless Dandy
All My Love and Prayers
If there is ever anything you need please call me.

I am so sorry to hear of "Monk's" passing. I remember going to his house with my Dad (Calvin Hudgins) all the time when I was little because they would go jumper fishing. They were such good friends. Those were the great memories. He was such a sweet person that was always smiling and joking. May you find comfort in knowing that you will see and be with him again and that he will always be with you in spirit. God Bless

Wanda, boys and family,
We are thinking of you all at this most difficult time. We know how strong you are and that, who we knew only as "pop-pop" along with your mom, could not be more proud of how the family has been over the years. Christopher was up this morning at 5 am fishing. One of his 1st experiences with boats was with pop-pop. Stay strong and find peace in his comfort.
Love, The Smiths-Jim, Tam, Christopher & Kara

“Monk” was one of the “Great” fathers of Dandy to me as was my father Bill and my wife’s father Archie. I had the great pleasure of bird hunting and jumper fishing with Monk. He was really a good person to be around. I know he and Flip raised five wonderful children that I also feel close too. There are still a few old time great fathers left in Dandy but for now I would like to say good-bye to a friend I had great respect for and one of Dandy’s best "Monk".
God bless you Dale, Wanda, Janet, Vickie and Wayne and find comfort that you had one of Dandy’s best for a father. He will be greatly missed!
