Mildred Dickens Obituary

HAMPTON - On Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, the Lord sent his angels to carry home his faithful servant, our mother, sister, and grandmother, Mildred Elizabeth Dickens.
She was born June 11, 1920, in Rocky Mount, N.C., to the late Julius and Lena Dickens.
Mildred was formally educated in the Tarboro, N.C., Public Schools. She worked as a companion to sick people. She was a member of Rising Star Christian Church.
Mildred leaves to cherish her fond memories, her children, Edward Dickens of Richmond, Va., and Jerry McBeath of Mississippi; her brother, William Dickens of Newport News; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and her special friends, Georgia Cofield and "Pee Wee."
Friends and family are invited to visit from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in Hampton. A Homegoing service will be celebrated 11a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, in the funeral home chapel.
Arrangements are by R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave., in Hampton, 757-723-3191. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
