Dorothy Wilson Trainham

NEWPORT NEWS - Dorothy Wilson Trainham, 90, passed away peacefully on Aug. 24, 2008 at the Chesapeake Retirement Facility in Newport News.
She was born in Mathews, Va., on July 7, 1918, and later moved to Poquoson, where she graduated from Poquoson High School in 1936. She enrolled and completed nursing school, graduating from the Riverside School of Nursing, Dec. 2, 1940. She went on to work as an RN in the medical department at the Newport News Shipbuilding, where she retired in 1977. She is a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Mathews, Va.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, James F. Trainham.
She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Ann Byars and husband, Harold of Yorktown; two granddaughters, Katherine Grizzle and husband, Dennis of Hampton, and Pamela Scheck of Seaford; four great-grandchildren, Lindsay and Christopher Byrum of Hampton, and Tyler and Ryan Scheck of Seaford; sister, Edna Wilson McVey of Grafton; brothers, James Wilson of Hampton, Frank Wilson of Hampton, and Leonard Wilson of Suffolk.
The family will receive friends at Peninsula Funeral Home from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Peninsula Memorial Park.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contribution be made to the Cancer Care Services Endowment Fund, 12100 Warwick Blvd., Ste. 201, Newport News, VA 23601 or to the Peninsula Rescue Mission, 3700 Huntington Ave., Newport News, VA 23607.
