I work at the Governors Inn where Mrs. Mitchell lived and I was very upset to find out she had passed. She was a sweet lady, very opinionated, even at 98 she still would speak her mind and tell you if she didnt want something. I am going to miss her very much. She touched my heart as she did with everyone who came in contact with her.

Beginning in September 1957, and for seven years, Thelma was my supervisor at the Bank of Hampton Roads. She was a lovely, caring lady and always interested in protecting me from 'unsuitable' young men; one in particular who was a constant visitor. She trained me to be very knowledgeable about my responsibilities, and I remember when the 'savings machine' became part of our department, she was quite adamant that "posting had always been by hand and we did not need that machine!"
She loved her family and her church and all who knew her have been blessed by knowing this gracious lady.

This message is for Patrick Smith, her grandson. I'm so sorry to hear you lost your grandmother, Patrick. You were so lucky to have her in your life for so long. Keep in touch! Your old friend, Sarah Burnette Conrad ([email protected])

There is one more special angel in heaven today with the death of Mrs. Mitchell. She was my sunday school teacher at Calvary Baptist many years ago and I will always remember her soft voice and pleasant smile as she taught us our bible lessons. She was a very gracious lady and my thoughts and prayers are with the family as they remember her in their hearts.
