Lucille Williams Obituary

HAMPTON - Lucille W. Williams, 96, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Aug. 30, 2008.
She was born in Roanoke, Va., and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. She came to the Peninsula to begin her nursing training at Riverside Hospital. After graduating at the top of her class in 1934, she worked as a nurse supervisor in Riverside Hospital and the former Elizabeth Buxton Hospital. She retired in June 1974 from the Newport News Public School System, where she was a school nurse and nurse supervisor for 25 years. She always took great pleasure in nursing others back to health.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Walter D. Williams, her parents, four brothers, and two sisters.
Lucille loved the Lord and served Him faithfully. First as a member of Ivy Memorial Baptist Church and then Liberty Baptist Church for the past 41 years. She was a member of the T.E.L. Ladies Bible Class, the Heartthrob Senior Adult Choir, and the Pacesetters Senior Adult Group.
Her greatest joy was her family - daughter, Jean W. Jacques; granddaughters and their husbands, Christy and Vince Warren, Terry and Dennis Bailey; and her two great-grandsons, Jake Warren and Hunter Bailey.
The Family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to the Northampton Convalescent Center for the care that was given to her during the time she was a resident.
At Lucille's request, a graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at Peninsula Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Liberty Baptist Church 'Greater Things' building fund.
Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Jean: While reading the N.N. paper online, I learned about your mother's passing. I am truly sorry to hear such sad news and want you to know I am thinking of you. I have such fond memories of those school years and of your mother as our school nurse. May God bless you at this sad time and in the future. My love, Frances Lee (Thomas) Lane

Dear Jean and family,

I am so sorry for your lose. Aunt Sis was a wonderful woman and lived her entire life with love and dignity. I hope you will find comfort in the knowledge that her memory will be blessed by all who were privileged to know her.

I have tried to make arrangements to be with you tomorrow, but the holiday is making it very difficult for me to do so. However, you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Love,

Pat, Jackie, & Jeremy Whitlock-Dooz
