Hollis Herring Obituary
He was born Sept. 15, 1918, to the late Willie Lee and Clara Godwin Herring, and was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel McNair Herring, and siblings, DuBois, Lemuel and Eulilia.
Mr. Herring was a World War II veteran and retired from V. W. Joyner & Co. after 40 years of service and the Isle of Wight School System as a bus driver, for nine years.
Survivors include his daughter, Pamela H. Lee(Steve); two granddaughters, Patyence, and Paneka all of Smithfield; one grandson, Montique Warren of Atlanta, Ga.; four great-grandchildren all of Smithfield.
Funeral Services will be held noon Friday, Sept. 5, at Rising Star Baptist Church, Battery Park Road in Smithfield with the Rev.
Michael Langley presiding. Burial will follow in the Gravel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Viewing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, and on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
The family will receive guest at 16516 Scott's Factory Rd. and from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Funeral Chapel.
Special thanks is extended to Riverside Hospice and the staff on the Warwick Unit at The Gardens at Warwick Forrest Nursing Facility.

Mr. Hollis will be missed, he was truly a faithful member of the Rising Star family. We lost a GREAT one, but his memory will last forever as a Deacon, Choir Member, Trustee, and Role Model. Thank you Mr. Hollis for sharing your love.
