Ruth Kirkland Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - The Lord called and welcomed Ruth Kirkland home to eternal life on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008 at James River Convalescent Center in Newport News, Va.
Ruth Kirkland was born on Jan. 1, 1931 to the late Charlie and Bessie Smith. She worked at the Agriculture Building in Washington, D.C., where she retired after 21 years.
She leaves to mourn her husband, Percy Kirkland of Newport News; three sons, Terry and Clark Cain of Maryland, and Grady Cain of Washington, D.C.; four sisters, Gladys Hyman (Colon), Grace Rowe and Doris Douglas-Bell (Allen) of Newport News, and Mason Evans of Grafton, Va.; two brothers, Eugene Smith (Kathren) of New Jersey and Stacy Smith (Joanne) of Falls Church, Va.; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A viewing will be held from 1to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at Nickelson-Cummings Funeral Chapel.
