Alma Allen Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Alma Marie Allen, 78, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Aug. 31, 2008.
Marie was a lifelong peninsula resident and a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister to her entire family.
Marie loved her family and gave of herself unselfishly to everyone who came into her life. She will be missed more than any words could express and our comfort lies in the fact that we will see her again with our Lord. The family would like to give thanks to those friends and family who have been constantly at our side during this very difficult time.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 35 years, Jim Allen, mother, Alma McKiel, two sisters, Doris Siler and Betty Payne and one brother, Vincent D'Bene.
She is survived by a daughter, Peggy Coleman, and her husband, Carl, of Newport News; a son, James S. Allen Jr. and his wife, Sharman, of Yorktown; four grandchildren, Nathan Coleman, Jason Coleman, Jordan Allen and Daniel Allen; one great grandson, Ethan Drake Coleman; and one brother, Willie D'Bene and his wife, Joyce Ann.
Should friends desire, donations may be made to a charity of their choice, versus flowers.
The family will receive visitors at Peninsula Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, with the services officiated by Pastor Prescott Belt and Pastor Daryl Jones at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, in the Peninsula Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Peggy & Family, Jimmy & Family,
Your mom was such a good friend to us and we have missed her since she has moved, she will always hold a special place in our hearts. She loved you two and your families alot and I know it is hard right now but you all have each other and each day will get a little easier as time goes by. Thanks for being such good friends through all these years. We had alot of fun times together, growing up didn't we?

Peggy & Jimmy, I am so sorry for the loss of your Mom. I know she is up with Jim and Granny looking and smiling down on us. (Jim probably has that knife just waiting). Anyway I am sorry that these seem to be the only times with the exception of Daddy's birthday that we Allen's can get together. Again if there is anything I can do just call. Love you both....Carol Jean

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Allen family. We knew Marie through Jim and Sharman (our very special friends) and we always enjoyed being around her. She will be missed by many, and she has also enriched the lives of everyone she knew. May God's comfort be with you all. Love, Wanda, Jim & Josh

Peggy and family,
We are saddened that Marie has passed. We can only be thankful that she is no longer suffering from health issues. She was so much fun at Deer Park Animal Hospital and when we had our monthly luncheons. She will be missed. May you have peace of mind that she is in heaven now and that you have so many wonderful memories of her life with you. Marie was a spunky person, always being truthful to herself and others. Our deepest sympathies are with the family.
Love
Marcia and Tom Chambers

Kids - I feel that I have lost my best friend, the sister that I could always count on no matter what the condition was at the time. We had many laughs and many tears over the years but she was always there for me even when she would give me a hug. She was there to help Joyce when I had open heart surgery and my stroke and I will never forget the times she sat by my bedside and try to encourage me to be strong and get up and going. We have so many good times with Mama, Marie, Joyce and myself in just laughing at Mom's house. I'm so happy that she called me and talked with me that night. My heart is sadden very much cause I don't have her now, but I know she is no more pain and she has a brand new body. She is in Heaven with her husband and her Mama and the rest of her family. May God be with each one you at this time of your life which is no easy. She loved all of you very much. Take care of yourself and God Bless you all. Love, Uncle Bud and Aunt Joyce

Peggy and family,
My prayers go out to your whole family. I am so sorry I didn't have a chance to see and visit with her in the past year. She was always a spitfire, making us all laugh at the things she said. I will miss that the most. Please, accept my condolences. Love, Kris
