Mr. Casto & Katie,
I worked with Sue at Clara Byrd Baker in another Special Ed classroom. I went into her classroom to help sometimes and she always was so caring to the children she taught. You have to have a calling from God to do the work she did and you could tell that she loved her children. She was always a caring & kind person to all. She will be missed. When I left Wmsbg. she would send messages by different ones to let me know that she was thinking about me.
My prayers are with you & your family.
May God continue to comfort you.
In Christian Sympathy,
Dorothy Lemons-Potter

Bill, the memorial service for Sue was a beautiful tribute to her as well as to your family. You should feel very proud of what she and you built together over many years. I know it will be hard not seeing her at the cabin door, but I know her spirit will always be there with you and Katie.

The thoughts and prayers of Sue's friends and colleagues in the School of Education at the College of William and Mary are with Sue's family during this difficult time and transition.

We miss you, Sue. You touched thousands of lives as a teacher of young children, but you touched innumerable more lives through your work as a Clinical Faculty member, mentoring aspiring teachers and sharing your sense of professionalism, commitment, and joy. Thank you, Sue, for opening up your classroom and your heart to so many.

I am another of Sue's classmates and I am so glad I got to see her one more time at our last class reunion. She was the same Sue that I remembered in school; fun, loving, caring, happy and funny. She will surely be missed. My prayers are with the family who are left behind. I know from experience they will need them. And to you SUE, I will see you again someday I am sure, till then, goodbye my friend.

I am so sorry to hear of Sue's passing. I too remember her laughter and so enjoyed her stories of her life and family - how she came to live in Berkeley Springs, the crazy times she had with her close friendships that have lasted a lifetime. I had moved before meeting Sue in those early years, but when I met her a few years ago she made me feel like I was always there. We last spent time together in Berkeley Springs at a retreat with many of the gang. I will cherish the picture from that time. Maybe someday we can honor her by getting together again to celebrate her life.

I was saddened by the news of Sue's death, and frustrated that death comes all too soon sometimes. I, too, graduated with Sue, and although I have not seen her for years, I remember her smile and all the crazy things she and the gang got into. My prayers are with you.

Remembering Sue, "Miss Casto" -
A tear rolls down our cheek...one of those tears we sometimes shed for happiness - for the things for which we are grateful.
You were happiness in us. You filled life with beauty. In just a moment's time spent with you, our troubles seemed small - our worries would fade.
You were the shifting tidal sands of all that is good. The ebb and flow of love. You were the gentle wind that rustled our leaves.
You were the evening sky, with your true colours deep and rich. You were the Earth Mother, rock-strong with life's fires burning deeply.
You eased our physical pains with your caring and understanding. Your compassion brought order to our emotional clutter.
You brought the excitement of a crowd into the solitude of our inner-self. Doors long closed you swung open with just a simple smile. Your "Welcome" sign hung on your heart.
You enriched our knowledge and respected that which was already there, no matter how thin or weak in the beginning. You were our footsteps, forever present with our every move. You put the taste of learning on our lips...the breath of wisdom in our soul.
You were the hope that allowed us to stand bravely. You were the medicine of our confidence.
You punctuated all that is beautiful with your own inner beauty. Your radiance was always breathtaking to all who looked.
We cannot be greedy though. It wasn't all just for us. You were the passion in many lives. To the children whom you touched, you brought thoughts full of wonder. Your gift was like thunder. And for that Sue..."Miss Casto," we loved you so.
May you walk on in beauty.

I am so sad to learn of Sue's death. I had not seen her in years--but I had kept up with her through DeLois. I remember her as a young girl when she and Betty Lou lived with Bunt and Kate.
My brother Mark and I were talking about her just a few days ago--I think he had a crush on her.
My heart goes out to you for your loss--Jolly (Maddox) Ellis--Seguin, Texas

Katie & Bill:
We are deeply saddened for the loss of Sue. I am Litsa Palantzas Kotsis ' sister and I had the great pleasure of knowing your mother and wife. She was a beautiful spirit. She always had a gentle and comforting smile. She offered great advice. I loved when she would stop me in the hall at D.J. Montague and ask for Greek recipes. She was a woman of wisdom and grace. Everyday, she would hug my little girl at D.J. Montague before I would take her to class. It made my daughter feel so special. She always shared her love and happiness with everyone around her. Katie she was so very proud of you and your accomplishments. Keep that with you always. Heaven gained a special angel! We will miss her very much.

God Bless you both, you are in our prayers

Mrs. Casto was a loving mother to everyone around her, and was always there to capture every precious moment with her disposable camera. A long-time family friend and tribe hockey mom, she will be missed by everyone she touched. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I worked across the hall from Sue for many years at Clara Byrd Baker.  She was always cheerful and kind - a wonderful teacher who always had the best interests of her students paramount.  She will be sorely missed by the WJCC school community.

Bill and Katie,
Although no words can really help to ease the loss you feel, just know that you are very close in every thought and prayer. I was deeply saddened to hear of Sue's passing...but my very first thought was "I love you bunches!" For almost 20 years, Sue and the Casto family has made an indelible mark on my life. Sue mentored me, counseled me, arranged dates for me, kept me out of trouble, entertained me, covered for me, and most of all loved me. Her life gave me many memories too beautiful to forget. I feel truly blessed that Sue was a part of my journey. May God bless you!

And most of all ......."Love you bunches,"

I am heartbroken to hear of Sue's passing. She was not just a Special Ed teacher, she was a special woman. She was always smiling, always had a kind word for everyone, and made those around her feel special.
I can see her now, herding her little brood of kids here and there, 2 or 3 wrapped around her while 2 or 3 more scampered ahead, and 2 or 3 more straggled behind. One only needed to look at the adoring eyes of those kids to know she was just where she belonged.
My very deepest condolences to her family. Know that many people are thinking of you and will keep you in their prayers. To her second family, D.J. Montague school, I know you will miss her gentle smile and sweet disposition. Her passing is a terrible loss for everyone who knew and loved her. Janice Kirby Baxter
