Beverly Dudley Obituary

YORKTOWN - Beverly Evelyn Dudley, 76, a woman of dignity and extraordinary character passed away on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008.
Mrs. Dudley was born on June 7, 1932, in Abilene, Kan., she was the daughter of the late Evelyn and Albert McNulty. She was a Yorktown resident since 1960. In her 32 years of employment, Mrs. Dudley had the distinction of serving as York's first and only Chief Librarian and was instrumentals in the development of a large and comprehensive multi-site library system.
Mrs. Dudley's greatest treasure was her family. She leaves a legacy of steadfast loyalty and memories of her profound love for her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. George F. Dudley and a daughter, Debbie L. Dudley, and is survived by her son, George Randy Dudley and Sandy L. Dudley both of Yorktown; a brother, Jack McNulty and his wife, Ray, of Texas and dear friend Polly Godfrey.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, in Amory Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Veterans Memorial Gardens, Hampton. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Beverly was a GREAT sister! My wife, Rae, and I will miss her very much. She was kind and thoughtful throughout her lifetime and always put everyone before herself. I am very proud of Beverly for her accomplishments in her career and for her dedication to her family. Our thoughts and prayers are with her children and may their Mother's memory bring them comfort.

I'm sad to lose my long time friend and confidant, Beverly Dudley. We grew up together in Abilene, Kansas, and although I still live here, Beverly and I kept in touch, talking frequently. Bev was totally dedicated to her library work, so much so, she didn't want to retire.
My condolences to her family,

Polly Godfrey, Abilene Kansas

I first met Beverly at the storefront library in Grafton. She was always pleasant, hardworking, and concerned with the growth of library facilities. Now we have two wonderful libraries in York County, and no doubt we owe a debt of gratitude to Beverly for all the time and effort she contributed to their growth. She was a warm and friendly person, and we will miss her.

I worked with Beverly beginning 12 years ago when I first moved to Yorktown, until her retirement. She truly cared about her library and made sure that those of us who worked for her had a chance to give their input during the building of the new Tabb Library. Beverly was a wonderful person and she will be missed. My prayers go out to her family.

I worked with Ms. Dudley my junior year in high school. She was such a wonderful person and I feel blessed to have had her in my life, even if it was for a short period. My thoughts and prayers and with her family.
