Edward Davis Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Edward C. Davis passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, at his home in Newport News.
He was born in Reidsville, Ga., Dec. 22, 1922, and had lived with his wife and family in Newport News since 1959.
Mr. Davis was an officer in the USAF for 30 years. He served with the China Air Task Force 14th Air Force Flying Tigers in the China-Burma Theatre during WWII and again served his country in the Vietnam War in 1968 and 1969. He received the China War Memorial Medal, a Bronze Star, and a Meritorious Service Medal for his service to his country. Following his retirement from the Air Force in 1971, he was a real estate broker for Blackman Realty during the 1970s and 1980s.
He loved to farm, keeping his friends and neighbors well supplied with fresh vegetables during the summer. He loved to watch football and baseball games on television, always keeping up with his favorite teams. He also loved his grandsons who referred to him as their beloved 'Grandpa'.
Mr. Davis is survived by his loving wife, Louise M. Davis; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Dianne and Bob Cornelison of Lynchburg, and Carolyn and Frank Ancarrow of Seaford; grandsons and their spouses, David Cornelison of Victor, Idaho, Robbie and Le Cornelison of Germantown, Md., Eric and Kelli Ancarrow of Seaford and David Ancarrow of Seaford.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held noon Friday, Sept. 19, at Peninsula Funeral Home. Burial will be in Peninsula Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Bethany United Methodist Church 1509 Todds Lane Hampton, VA 23666 or the SPCA, 523 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.

I always enjoyed being in the company of and very fond of Ed. I remember Ed when he began working with my mother, Christine Blackman and reminded me so much of my father's ways. He always seemed happy, smiling, and not to mention, a "Great" sense of humor. I will always remember him! Love to Mrs. Davis and family!
