Charles Williamson Obituary

HAMPTON - Charles Elbert Williamson Jr., was born Jan. 6, 1952, to the late Charles Williamson Sr. and the late Alice Petteway Williamson. On Sept. 11, 2008, our Lord and Savior mercifully took his son home.
Charles graduated from Huntington High School in 1971 and furthered his education to receive certification as a machinist from New Horizons. He was gainfully employed at Grapha for several years and later went to Vogel Lubrications. After working a number of years there, he returned to Grapha, now known as Mueller Martini. His true passion in life was music. Charles touched many lives with his talking guitar and soothing voice. He was a part of many great groups and bands such as LG and the Soul Seekers, Charlie McClendon, the Pacesetters, and Slapwater to name a few. Charles was blessed to share the stage with such world renown national recording artists such as Millie Jackson, Bill Deil and the Rhondelles and New Birth.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna White Williamson and his son, Charles Elbert Williamson III.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory, two daughters, Sharletia Williamson, Oreonna Stokes (Carlos); one stepdaughter, Tasha Williamson; 11 grandchildren; one sister, Cynthia Whigham; one nephew, Garcia Charles Whigham; and a large host of loving relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held at noon Friday, Sept. 19, at Messiah Baptist Church. Viewing will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Friday. Arrangements are by O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home. I am so sorry to hear of the passing of my friend Charles. He was one of the best bass players I have ever known, and we (Edna, Oliver Roy, Ivan Prentiss, and David "Skit" Haskett) spent many an evening rehearsing in the basement of my parents house as the band called Swan. I have many very fond memories of Charles or 'unc' as I used to call him. May GOD bless the family and keep the wonderful memories of him alive!

Penny and the Williamson Family:

I was so sorry and deeply saddened to hear of your loss. I'll forever remember the Lil "Brother" hanging around those times I visited you and your Mom on 27th Street; and who can forget our days in the Huntington High School Band...!!!
May God Bless and keep you all.

I was surprised at the news of Charles’ passing. I became acquainted with Charles during his LG & The Soul Seeker days. He and all of the band members had such a strong bond. Years have passed, and I still have fond memories of Charles, Jamara and the band members.

I pray peace and strength for the family.

God bless.

To Williamson family,
I worked with Charles during both his tenures at Muller. He was always a helpful, steady worker with an excellent attitude & a pleasure to work with. He faced many challenges, but always seemed to survive with a positive outlook. His demeanor & music defined his character. I hope his legacy lives on thru his relatives. He will be missed by many.

Penny and Family,
I am so sorry to hear of Brother's passing. I remember him as the cutest little fat cheeked boy, playing with Cubby. So much time has passed since seeing any of you, but now time will be a healer for you and his family. He is now in the loving arms of Paper and Alice and The Almighty. May God blanket the family at this time.

Love Cheryl

Williamson Family,
I am so sorry for your loss of Charles. I knew him as a kid when he and his family lived in the 800 block of 27th street and when we attended Huntington High. He always had a smile on his face and was friendly. He had the gift of music for sure.
Be encouraged and blessed.
