Herman Riggins Obituary

POQUOSON - Herman Franklin Riggins, 88, native of Poquoson, was laid to rest on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, in Easley, S.C. Herman died Thursday, Sept. 11, after a courageous, long battle with Prostrate Cancer.
Herman was born a twin son to the late Linwood and Ruth Edwards Riggins of Poquoson, Va. He was a graduate of Hargrave Military Academy and The Citadel. He served in the U.S. ARMY earning a Bronze Star and Purple Heart in World War II. Herman was a Chemist for the USDA for over 40 years and retired in Easley, S.C., where he married Louise Catherine Underwood. They were members of Rock Springs Baptist Church. During his retirement he enjoyed exercising at the YMCA, volunteering at the Palmetto Baptist Medical Center, taking trips with their Sunday School Class and traveling with his wife to visit family. He was a lifelong member of the Masonic Temple.
Herman leaves behind his wife of 23 years, Louise Catherine Underwood Riggins of Easley, S.C.; his stepsons, William Roland Akers and wife, Dorcas, of Newport News, Va.; Jerry Houston and wife, Sherry, Lloyd Houston; and one stepdaughter, Ginger Young, all of South Carolina; eight grandchildren, Chris Wissmann and William Roland Akers Jr., both of Virginia; Michele Cottrell, Jason Houston, Alena Fleming, Kelly Creswell, Joshua Houston and Norman Trevchan, all of South Carolina; 16 great-grandchildren; his niece by marriage, Frances Riggins; one great-niece and great-nephews, Earl Calvin Riggins III, John Linwood Riggins and Kevin Riggins, all of Poquoson, Va.
Herman was preceded in death by his brothers, Earl Calvin Riggins and Henry Everette Riggins, his twin; and his nephew, Earl Calvin Riggins II.
Herman is entombed in the Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum at Robinson Memorial Gardens in Easley, S.C.
